San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy got fans hyped up and excited as he dropped a huge hint on the potential return of running back Christian McCaffrey.

In his recent interview on “The Insiders,” 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy talked about a number of topics, including an update on his teammate, running back Christian McCaffrey. According to the quarterback, things are looking positive from McCaffrey’s end.

“I’m so excited,” he said during the interview. “You know, Christian being back and healthy and getting in and out of cuts and obviously throwing to him out of the backfield and in the slot, like Christian’s a true Swiss army knife.”

“Man, he could do it all. And so to be able to have him back healthy, and even just seeing him pour into these young guys in the locker room and our culture here and speaking up in meetings with certain things, man, Christian is ready to roll.”

Christian McCaffrey’s 2024 season was plagued by injuries, ultimately leading to a premature end. The San Francisco 49ers’ star running back initially suffered Achilles tendinitis during the preseason, forcing him to miss the first eight games of the regular season.

Upon his return, McCaffrey showed flashes of his usual brilliance, but his comeback was short-lived. In Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills, he sustained a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury, which sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

The injury occurred in a snowy matchup in Buffalo, where McCaffrey went down with a non-contact knee issue after taking a pitch from quarterback Brock Purdy. Despite briefly visiting the medical tent, he was ruled out for the game and later placed on injured reserve.

Brock Purdy Sets Record with Extension Deal with 49ers

Brock Purdy signed a five-year, $265 million contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers, securing his future with the team through the 2030 NFL season. The deal includes $181 million in guaranteed money, with $165.05 million paid out in the first three years. Purdy also received a full no-trade clause, ensuring he remains a cornerstone of the franchise.

Despite the massive contract, Purdy emphasized that his goal was to help build a competitive team, rather than just maximize his earnings. The 49ers have already made roster adjustments, including trading Deebo Samuel and allowing key defenders to leave in free agency, to accommodate the new salary cap reality.

With the new contract, Brock Purdy now ranks as the seventh-highest annual salary for an NFL quarterback.
