The Ohio State Buckeyes had to use the transfer portal last season when Kyle McCord left for the Syracuse Orange. Ohio State landed former Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Will Howard in the transfer portal. Howard has been good for them this season, and the Buckeyes will face the Tennessee Volunteers in the college football playoffs this upcoming Saturday night.
After the season ends, Howard will not be the quarterback for the 2025 season. One name to potentially watch for in the 2025 college football season is Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers.
Ohio State Buckeyes Most Likely Not Bringing Back Quinn Ewers In 2025 Despite Rumors
Once the 2024 college football season comes to an end, Quinn Ewers is either going to go in the 2025 NFL Draft or enter the transfer portal. It is very unlikely that Ewers will stay with Texas after the season ends because of Arch Manning potentially starting for the Longhorns in 2025.
Ryan Stano of scarletandgray.com said about Ewers potentially coming back to Ohio State next season:
“Ewers ended up staying for a year to get paid NIL money before heading back home to Texas. There is a report out there that a Big Ten team has offered a large sum of NIL money to Ewers to play for them next season. Is there a chance that Ohio State is that program?
While bringing Ewers back would be interesting, it likely isn’t the best thing for the Buckeyes to do at this point. They need to prepare for the future instead of these one-year quarterback rentals. Ewers would only be a one-year rental. Ohio State needs to allow Julian Sayin, Air Noland, or Tavien St. Clair to start.
It’s highly unlikely that Ohio State is the program looking to bring Ewers back. At this point, it’s unclear who that program is. Ewers may not even be interested in that offer. He is likely going to enter the NFL Draft once his run in the College Football Playoff is over. If he doesn’t he’ll likely stay at Texas.
Ohio State had their chance at Ewers. That time has clearly passed. Ohio State needs to focus on beating Tennessee and then using quarterbacks they already have on the roster for next year and beyond.”
The Buckeyes had him in 2021 but decided to transfer to Texas after the 2021 season. Ohio State has young talented quarterbacks like Julian Sayin on the roster already and Tavien St. Clair could start as a freshman next season. The Ohio State Buckeyes bringing back Quinn Ewers next year wouldn’t make sense at all.
2025 NFL Draft Likely Destination
The best thing for Ewers at this point is to finish the season with the Texas Longhorns and then declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. Quinn Ewers should not start for an NFL team next year. He should sit and learn until he is ready to play.
Shedeur Sanders of Colorado and Cam Ward of Miami will most likely be drafted ahead of Quinn Ewers in the 2025 NFL Draft. It would be a surprise if Ewers was in college next year with the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Texas Longhorns, or any other program for that matter also.
