Russell Wilson’s disastrous Week 3 showing against the Chiefs had Giants fans chanting “We want Dart” at MetLife Stadium, but it appears like Brian Daboll isn’t ready to make the switch just yet.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, team insiders insist the Giants plan to keep rookie Jaxson Dart on the sideline for as long as possible.
“I spoke to people within the organization and they told me they would like to keep [Jaxson] Dart from playing as long as possible,” a source told Raanan, as he added, “[This] definitely wasn’t the plan [for him to potentially play this soon].”

That stance comes despite fans’ growing frustration during Sunday night’s 22-9 loss. Russell Wilson, who had thrown for 450 yards and three touchdowns against Dallas just a week earlier, managed only 160 yards with two interceptions against Kansas City. His struggles reached a breaking point when boos echoed throughout the stadium and chants for Dart peaked after an intentional grounding penalty inside the red zone.
Dart entered for just three snaps, all on designed runs, leaving fans without a glimpse of his arm. Afterwards, the 21-year-old insisted he “didn’t really pay attention” to the noise, while Wilson shrugged off the chants.
“Highs and lows… you’ve got to have thick skin,” the veteran QB said.
Daboll, who admitted he’d “be booing too” given the Giants’ offensive collapse, now faces a crucial call ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the undefeated Chargers. Gio Lopez is sidelined by injury, and Russell Wilson is under heavy fire; the pressure to accelerate Dart’s development is mounting.
Still, the Giants’ daunting schedule looms large in Daboll’s decision-making. After hosting the Chargers, New York faces the Eagles twice in four weeks and a road trip to Denver.
Brian Daboll Sidestepped Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart Question in Post Week 3 Presser
The Giants’ 0-3 start has New York restless, but head coach Brian Daboll wasn’t ready to clarify his quarterback situation after Sunday’s primetime embarrassment against the Chiefs.
Pressed repeatedly on whether Russell Wilson would remain QB1 moving forward, Daboll stayed in his usual tight-lipped lane.
“We’re working through all personnel decisions, and we’ll do that over the next few days,” he told reporters on Monday, before pivoting back to watching tape. Each follow-up drew the same refrain, “We’re evaluating everything.”
That evasiveness only fueled speculation about rookie Jaxson Dart, the No. 25 overall pick. While Daboll stopped short of naming Wilson’s replacement, the deflections sounded a lot like a coach leaving the door open. After all, Wilson’s one-year, $21,500,000 deal with $10,000,000 guaranteed was always meant to buy the Giants time before turning the page to Dart.
Wilson’s highs and lows through three weeks, from nearly 450 yards and three scores against Dallas to a two-pick disaster in prime time, have left the fanbase howling for change. At MetLife, chants of “We want Dart” rang out as Russell Wilson misfired in the red zone.
Now, with a Week 4 showdown against the undefeated Chargers looming, Daboll faces a decision he can’t put off forever.
