BillsThe Los Angeles Rams entered the 2022 season as the defending Super Bowl Champions. After three weeks the Rams offense and defense still have some question marks. But there is something certain in LA. The Rams have one player who is ready for a breakout season. Here is my breakout player prediction.

Breakout Player Prediction: Running back Darrell Henderson

    Breakout player prediction
    Darrell Henderson of LA Rams

Darrell Henderson needs to be on everyone’s radar in the 2022 season. The Rams drafted him in the 2019 NFL draft to pair with Malcom Brown as the backup to reigning Offensive player of the year Todd Gurley.

After Gurley’s release in 2020, Henderson split time as the lead back with rookie Cam Akers. Henderson played in 15 games finishing his sophomore season with 624 yards on 138 touches and an average of 4.5 yards per attempt.

Last season Akers was ruled out for the year in training camp. The injury gave Henderson an opening to receive the bulk of the carries. Much to the demise of Henderson an injury nagged him mid way through the year. The injury would ultimately sideline him for the final five games of the season and most of the playoffs.  Henderson amassed 688 yards on 149 touches finishing with 4.6 yards per attempt. He has been able to find himself in the endzone via the rushing variety 10 times combined the last two seasons.

The fourth year back has established himself as a reliable target for quarterback Matthew Stafford. In the short time together Henderson has hauled in 34 of 45 targets for 202 yards and three touchdowns.

What could hold Darrell Henderson back?

The only thing I see holding him back is injuries.  Henderson has missed time throughout his career with leg issues. Multiple IR stints in his rookie year and last season cost him 8 games combined. IF Henderson is able to remain on the field he could very well be an offensive player of the year candidate. Not only that but help the Rams offense tread through some rough waters.

The Rams offensive line is not what it was last season but could get better. If the o-line remains a question mark it’s not a deal breaker for Henderson’s season. My prediction will remain the same throughout the year. The 25 year old halfback has tallied an average of 2.6 yards before contact per attempt. A defender touches him on average, before he makes it back to the line of scrimmage. For him to have a career average of 4.4 yards per attempt is absolutely astonishing. Which is why Darrell Henderson is my LA Rams breakout player prediction
