On the Recruiting Trail: Three-Star Prospect Commits to Cavaliers
After silently committing to Coach Elliott weeks ago, three-star prospect TyLyric Coleman has officially committed to the UVA Cavaliers. The 12th commit for the 2023 class, Coleman is ranked as the 40th best prospect in Virginia by 247 Sports. Coleman is an in-state player making this an even sweeter win for the future recruiting success of the Cavaliers.
Now, Coleman will join running back Dante Hawthorne; defensive lineman Miles Greene; interior offensive lineman Cole Surber; defensive lineman Rodney Lora; and linebacker Kamren Robinson as a member of the 2023 Cavaliers recruiting class.
Taking the Field
For Dan River High School, Coleman has played in the secondary and wide receiver positions. With experience on both sides of the ball, he is an exciting prospect for the Cavs. At 6’3″ and 175 lbs., Coleman brings height, length, and speed to the program. Working with coaches at Virginia to hone his skills could result in a more focused role for Coleman in the long term.
Speaking on his time as a recruit, Coleman spoke highly of his experience with the Cavs. Coleman said, “I feel it’s some place where I can grow and reach my full potential-not only as an athlete, but as a man.” TyLyric Coleman is ready for the football world to respect UVA in the same way the academic world does. He’s even set his sights on recruits like Kemori Dixon and Jacoby Davis hoping they’ll give the Cavs a chance, too.
Hoos In First?
Right now, Virginia is recruiting well. They’re polishing talent and working to dominate on both sides of the ball. The Cavs are determined to meet their full potential.
If the Cavs continue to recruit well, especially with in-state players, they could see serious success. Undoubtedly, it can be difficult to fuse existing talent with that of newer recruits and to find an ideal rhythm. However, if the coaching staff can pull it off, the Tony Elliott era may prove to be the transformative force the Hoos have been waiting for.
I’m not one to “put the cart before the horse” but it feels like the right time to put some respect on the Cavs’ name. As they say in Charlottesville, wahoowa!
