Ohio State has made a few changes in its athletic programs in the past year, and the big one was former athletic director Gene Smith retiring this summer and bringing in Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork to take over the job.
Ohio State Has Made Changes This Season, And Hopefully, Ryan Day Isn’t Next
Bjork led the coaching search this winter for the Buckeyes basketball head coaching position and hired Jake Diebler, the interim coach after Chris Holtmann was fired earlier in the season. Bjork already showed he is ready to make significant moves in Ohio State’s athletic program, and one move he could make is finding a new head coach for the football team if Ryan Day doesn’t figure out how to beat Michigan this season and go far in the new 12 team college football playoff.
Luckily for Day, he has a ton of help on his roster this season. He brought back many players who could’ve gone to the NFL and brought in huge transfer players like Alabama safety Caleb Downs, one of the best defensive players in the game.
Returning many players and bringing in many stars from the portal raised a few eyebrows around the college football world, and we got some answers about how they have been able to do it.
Ohio State Is Giving Bags Of Cash In NIL
In an article from the Eleven Warriors by Chase Brown, he states Ross Bjork told Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports that collectives and brand affiliates disbursed “around $20 million” to Buckeye football players this past year.
To attain all this talent and recruit at a high level, NIL has to be a primary factor in getting players to want to stay in school or come to your program, and clearly, the Buckeyes have done a nice job of giving the players what they want.
Ohio State is in a great position with its boosters and affiliates to bring in money for NIL. The Buckeyes are the biggest brand in college football, and they are sort of like the New York Yankees.
The Buckeyes can dish out whatever money they like, and the last three seasons of not being able to beat Michigan were probably one of the main reasons why they have given out 20 million dollars in NIL in the past year.
Ohio State has the advantage over almost every team in college football regarding NIL, so they better find a way to win the national championship, or they will be the laughingstock of college football.
