In 2018 BYU football announced a series with NC State in 2024 in Raleigh and 2030 in Provo Utah. They had one scheduled for November and the other for August. Dates were still to come for those games against the Wolfpack. In 2024 this will be the first time these two teams meet on the field. With BYU moving to the Big 12 in 2023 many more games will have to come off future schedules in order to make room for the conference schedule BYU now has to play.
With this series now being canceled, they still haven’t met on the football field. No penalty for either team in the contract signed if someone switched conferences. The Cougars only need 3 non-conference games to begin in 2023 so that means that some teams will cancel the series due to scheduling conflicts.
There have been other teams on the future schedules to do the same thing. Utah State canceled its games from 2023 to 2026. Stanford’s four future games with the Cougars were supposed to be in 2025, 2026,2028, and 2035. The other two games in 2022 and in 2031 will still happen. BYU was supposed to play Virginia in 2023 and in 2025 those games have come off the schedule. Tennessee shortly after Virginia canceled did the same the Cougars were supposed to play them in 2023 as well. Boise States games against the Cougars have come to end until further notice. The 2023 game against USC has also been canceled.
