Liberty and Appalachian State were supposed to face each other this weekend in Boone, North Carolina with kickoff scheduled at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. However, because of Hurricane Helene’s effects, the game was canceled on Friday.
The game will not be made up this season. Liberty plays in Conference USA and Appalachian State plays in the Sun Belt. The Flames are 4-0 overall this season and the Mountaineers are 2-2 this season.
Appalachian State Releases Statement On Cancellation Against Liberty
On Friday, the Mountaineers released a statement about canceling the game against the Flames because of the Hurricane Helene effects. It said:
“App State’s home football game scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, against Liberty is canceled due to severe impacts to App State, the town of Boone and surrounding areas caused by Hurricane Helene. The game will not be rescheduled. Friday’s home field hockey game against Bellarmine is also canceled. Details on football ticket implications will be communicated as soon as possible.”
With the cancellation of the game, the Mountaineers’ next game will be next weekend on the road against Marshall. As for the Flames, their next game will be against FIU on Tuesday, October 8. Could not making up this game affect the chances of the Flames to make the college football playoffs this season?

I think one of them should get the win on their record. Like, flip a coin. Or maybe give both wins?

These responses from the fans about the game being canceled are rather silly. It is a serious situation as to why the game had to be canceled and won’t be made up this season. The game being canceled hurts the Flames way more than it hurts the Mountaineers, but it is a move that had to be made. We will see how both teams respond the following week.
