The Kansas City Chiefs made some interesting roster moves Saturday
The Kansas City Chiefs ensured they would have extra depth at tight and wide receiver for Sunday. The Chiefs will play the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game for the chance to go to their third Super Bowl in four seasons. But they’ll have some injury adversity to overcome during the game.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been battling a high-ankle sprain he sustained in the first half of the Divisional Round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. He was able to practice this week, but Mahomes didn’t appear to be super mobile in a leaked video from warm-ups Thursday. Mahomes is expected to play Sunday.
The Chiefs had a surprise on the injury report Friday. Tight end Tavis Kelce was added for a back injury. He was listed as questionable to play against the Bengals. Even after Reid said he had no injuries to report Wednesday, wide receiver Mecole Hardman was listed as questionable to play Sunday on Friday’s injury report.
With those key injuries at pass-catching positions, the Chiefs elevated two wide receivers and will have another tight end for the AFC Championship Game.
Roster elevations and activations
According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Chiefs activated tight end Jody Fortson from the injured reserve. The Chiefs elevated wide receivers Marcus Kemp and Ihmir Smith-Marsette for Sunday. Kemps was activated for last week’s Divisional Round game. They also signed running back La’Mical Perine to the practice squad. To make room for Perine, they cut wide receiver, Jerrion Ealy.

These moves seem to indicate the Kansas City Chiefs are unsure as of Saturday night if Hardman or Kelce can go for Sunday. We’ll keep an eye out for the inactive list Sunday before the game.
