Former NFL safety and Hall of Famer, Ed Reed has just posted on his social media accounts that Bethune Cookman has informed him they will not be ratifying his contract, forcing him to withdraw as the school’s next head coach.
His statement reads: “It’s my desire to not only coach football, but to be an agent of change that most people just talk about being. However, after weeks of negotiations I’ve been informed that the university won’t be ratifying my contract and won’t make good on the agreement we had in principle, which had provisions and resources best needed to support the student athletes.”
Lack of accountability and resources is the center of the disagreement between Reed and the school and the source of his frustrations.
Reed stated “Bethune-Cookman University has been working with my legal team to craft contract terms with the language and resources we knew were needed to build a successful football program,”

Just five days after livestreaming his frustrations about the conditions of the campus and lack of support from the athletic department Reed was informed this morning that he will no longer be hired as Bethune Cookman’s head coach.
Reed on a separate livestream contemplated whether or not he was going to take the job following his initial outburst on Sunday.

Despite Reed’s best efforts to smooth things over with alumni and his athletic department with his public apology and closed door meetings, Reed’s turbulent-filled tenure has come to an end after just a month.
