BYU Football takes on SMU in the New Mexico Bowl
BYU finishes out the regular at 7-5 and a big question of which bowl game they got to play in. The Cougars wait no more as they will take on SMU Mustangs on December 17th at potentially 2:15 pm but they could switch times with the Las Vegas Bowl and play later. This game will be played at the home of the New Mexico Lobos Football team in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This will be BYU Footballs’ first trip back since 2010 when they beat UTEP with Jake Heaps leading them to that win. BYU is 7-5 and looking for another win to cap off this season but the Independence Era. The last time the Cougars played this bowl game they were in the Mountain West conference and that ended that Era. So now it’s time for this game to end another era and move the Cougars into the Big 12. This matchup is familiar to both teams as it is known for the famous “Miracle Bowl” in 1980 when the Cougars came back to win in the final minutes.

SMU is also 7-5 and looking onto next season. They won the last 5 games to be bowl eligible to play here. As they look to win this game for some great momentum heading into the offseason and next season.
The time is a flex on primetime as it would be accommodating to the Las Vegas Raiders and when their primetime game would be played. This would switch times with the Las Vegas Bowl and then BYU-SMU would play the later bowl game that day.
