Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders has made it clear he plans to help his son, Shedeur Sanders, land in the right place in the NFL.
In November, Deion said on FS1’s Speak Live that he would stop “wrong” NFL teams from drafting Shedeur during the 2025 draft. Deion plans to keep those conversations in private. (Well maybe until the “wrong” team decides they’re going to draft Shedeur anyway.)
“I’m going to be dad until the cows come home,” Deion said. The second-year coach of the Buffaloes added that his grace would also extend to two-way star cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter.
Deion Sanders has teams in mind for Shedeur
Deion explained what kind of team he wanted Shedeur to land with next year.
“Somebody that can handle the quarterback that he is,” Sanders said. “Somebody that can handle understanding what he’s capable of, Someone who has had success in the past handling quarterbacks or someone in an organization that understands what they’re doing, not just throwing you out there amongst the wolves.”

Shedeur will play in the Colorado Buffaloes football postseason
On Tuesday, Deion decided to play a play a role in Shedeur’s and Hunter’s pre-draft plans. The Hall of Fame star announced both players would participate in Colorado’s postseason, regardless of what is at stake.
“No, we got a bowl game,” Deion said. “It’s (Friday’s game) not the last time you’re gonna see them in a Buff uniform.”
Deion is taking a rather old-school approach here. Colorado’s chances of making the College Football Playoff took a nose dive following their 37-21 loss to Kansas at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday. The Buffaloes are 8-3 entering their final game of the season when they host Oklahoma State on Friday.
Players heading for the draft don’t typically risk injury by playing in a bowl game unless they have something to prove on tape. Former Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith fell from being a first-round pick to going in the second round after suffering ACL and LCL injuries in a 2016 bowl game.
The No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft, Caleb Williams, did not play in USC’s bowl game last season.
Shedeur almost suffered a career-threatening injury in Colorado’s loss to Kansas on Saturday. Why would he want to risk his standing before the 2025 draft?
Other than to help build Deion’s brand?
