Boston College got their first win of the season Saturday over fellow New Englander, University of Maine. Maine was able to keep it close for a quarter but the Eagles just overpowered the Black Bears in the final three quarters of the game.
Big Plays Lead to Points
“Explosive plays do that for you. That’s how you score and it gives us a ton of momentum.” Hadley’s post game press conference was monotone as usual but you could see his sense of relief to get that first victory of the season. BC had two plays over fifty yards with one going for a touchdown to Zay Flowers. The other was to Jaden Williams which led to a two yard touchdown to George Takacs from Jurkovec.

BC was also able to win the turnover battle 3-0 with one fumble recovery and two intercetions, with the second on going for 49 yards and leading to what would be an eventual missed field goal by Connor Lytton, his second of the game. BC also had multiple twenty plus yard plays leading to scores.
Jurkovec Passes for Seventh Career 300 yard game
Phil Jurkovec threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns and received much praise from his coach after the game.

“I think Phil played well, I think he managed the game well… I liked the way Phil led today. He was the most positive guy we had today.” Hadley went on to mention that he had no idea Jurkovec had another 300 yard performance until the press conference.
Jurkovec, who is in his third season at BC, hit seven different teammates for receptions today. BC has been a one dimensional offense at times this season trying to for the ball to Flowers at times and by spreading the ball out more, especially to their young and very athletic receivers, not only will Jukovec’s success improve but the team as a whole as well.
Young Receivers Starting To Contribute
Jaden Williams, Lewis Bond, and Joe Griffin Jr. all helped contribute to the victory for BC. Williams whos 53 yard receptions would lead to BC’s second touchdown of the game on the following play was the highlight for the young group of pass catchers but it’s the different style they all provide this BC offense which is exciting to watch.

Williams and Bond are on the smaller end at 5’9” and 5’10” respectively but they are fantastic at getting separation from defensive backs with how fast they can break on their routes which we saw on both of their big receptions. On the other hand Griffin Jr. is 6’4” and is a physically dominating player on the outside for the Eagles. All three should be key contributors in the future for BC.
