Welcome to my DFS MNF showdown between the Broncos and Seahawks. The NFL rewards us by capping off Week One with Russ’ return to Seattle. If you haven’t caught my Week One Autopsy yet, give it a look. I dissect my own advice to keep myself accountable. Right now though, it’s all about the Broncos and Seahawks, so let’s get into it!
Game Overview – Broncos v Seahawks
Denver Broncos – 7
O/U: 43.5
Money Line: Denver Broncos -320
Broncos Key Players Out or Injured:
- LB Josey Jewell is OUT
- OLB Randy Gregory is coming off shoulder surgery but he says, “I’ll be ready.”
- RT Billy Turner is a game time decision with a knee.
- WR Tim Patrick is out for the season.
- WR KJ Hamler is Questionable with a knee and a hip issue. He is likely to dress and could be WR3 tonight.
Seahawks Key Players Out or Injured:
- CB Artie Burns is doubtful.
- RB Kenneth Walker is Questionable recovering from hernia surgery.
- Guard Damien Lewis is Questionable with a knee and ankle issue.
The world is expecting the Broncos to hand the Seahawks a drubbing.
The Broncos Offense
The obvious addition here is Russell Wilson, but what I am excited about is the Broncos’ improved offensive line. They were top 10 in pass blocking last year and made significant improvement’s in run blocking. They are not an elite group, but they are an ascending group who is projected to get better as the season goes on.
This or that, this or that. At both WR and RB we have choices to make as DFS players. At WR, who is it going to be? Sutton, Jeudy and Hamler should all have an opportunity to shine with Russ. However, the Broncos are not anticipated to be a fast paced, high flying passing offense, so it’s not like there is going to be a ton of volume. Additionally, the Broncos are expected to be an even offense, meaning they’ll be trying to establish the run. Javonte Williams will be a star in this league if the coaching staff lets him, but Melvin Gordon is still around. Gordon should get snaps and could very well be the goal line RB.
The Broncos Defense
In my humble opinion, Randy Gregory is the better get for the Broncos team than Russell Wilson is. It’s like he knew the Cowboys were about to be a dumpster fire and got out while the gettin’ was good. He will be a true difference maker for the Broncos and that will start tonight against one of the worst offensive lines in the league. He will make up for the departure of Von Miller.
The secondary was ranked 30th last year, but they were hit pretty hard by the injury bug. They have arguably the best safety in the NFL in Justin Simmons. Caden Sterns and Kareem Jackson are capable safeties as well. Patrick Surtain is flirting with becoming a top 10 CB in the league as well. Ronald Darby and K’Waun Williams are decent too, but Darby will likely have his hands full with DK Metcalf. Passing on this group could be a challenge for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks Offense
If the Bears offensive line is the worst in the NFL, this group isn’t far away. While they made some significant improvements in run blocking, they are quite bad at pass blocking, which isn’t good news for defending the likes of Gregory, Browning and Chubb.
Somehow Geno Smith won this QB job. That might initially be a good thing because he has been in this offense longer than Drew Lock.
The Seahawks Defense
The Broncos offensive line should have a fairly easy time with the Seahawks’ pass rushers. Seattle’s front line and linebackers should be better at stopping the run than getting to the QB. However, they probably won’t be great at stopping the run either. In pretty much every area, Denver has an advantage over Seattle.
Player Pool
- Courtland Sutton was a huge disappointment last year, but he was injured and had Drew Lock throwing him the ball. The Seahawks secondary is banged up. Sutton will have both height and weight advantages on anyone they put up against him.
- I’ll have both Denver RBs spread throughout my lineups.
- KJ Hamler arguably has the best matchup against slot CB Justin Coleman who ranks outside the top 90.
- When Hamler isn’t in the slot, Jerry Jeudy will be, so he makes the cut too.
- Let’s not forget that this is a revenge game narrative for Noah Fant as well. He’s an athletic TE and has shown up in optimal lineups before. Fant’s usage in this offense is an unknown so proceed with caution.
- I feel like every season Tyler Lockett is a forgotten man but then shows up to remind people that’s he quite talented.
- Every one of my lineups will have either Russ Wilson or Geno Smith. Russ should also have more time to throw than he has had in recent seasons.
- DK Metcalf should be able to inflict his will on Darby. Geno also likes him.
- Travis Homer and Deejay Dallas will be on my radar if Kenneth Walker is out. It is likely that the Seahawks end up trailing in this game. Penny is not a receiving back. Dallas and Homer might catch passes in a trailing game script. I will have exposure to all the backs, but none at captain.
- Denver’s defense could keep this game low scoring, nab a few sacks, and generate a turnover or two. They are not projected to be world beaters, or be at high risk of scoring a defensive TD, but stranger things
have happened.
Captain Pool
- Metcalf, Sutton, Denver D

I’m adding Jeudy to the captain pool and removing the Denver D.
