Hello to all Gridiron Heroics fans and welcome to what I hope becomes a weekly installment of my Daily Fantasy Football or DFS musings. I dabble a little in NHL and NASCAR, but we all know this is the prime fantasy season.
I hope your seasonal drafts went well and you ended up with a roster that doesn’t make you sick to your stomach. Right about now is when I switch my mind from seasonal fantasy prep to the daily game. Later this week I’ll post about what players I’m targeting and the situations I am looking to exploit, but figured I’d go through some nuts and bolts so that you know what to expect.
Daily Fantasy Sites DraftKings and SuperDraft
These are the two sites I play on. I will occasionally hop on FanDuel but for the most part it’s these two. For anyone who doesn’t know, DraftKings is your traditional salary based site. SuperDraft is a newer company that employs multipliers to each player’s fantasy output. For example, let’s say Jonathan Taylor has a 2x multiplier (which he will not but this is just an example) and runs for 100 yards and 2 TDs. His fantasy output of 22 points will be multiplied by 2 for 44 points. The good thing about SuperDraft is that you can literally roster anyone you want and are not constrained by a salary cap.
Both sites have the type of contests that I focus on: GPPs, or guaranteed prize pools. GPPs are what contests like the Millionaire Maker are. There are specific payouts for finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on. The other type of contests are cash games, 50/50s and double ups. In these contests you just have to finish in the top 50% to win double your money. For a long time I thought this was the type of DFS players I was. It seemed much easier, but my results are way better in GPPs. I make about 60 – 70 lineups each Sunday with the goal on getting one in contention to win a whole tournament.
My Biggest Rule
Lastly, and I cannot stress this enough, be careful with your money. I do this for fun, sometimes I make money, sometimes I don’t. I would not advise you to take my future analysis and strategy and then put your mortgage or child’s college fund at risk. Know up front that I personally never spend money I cannot afford to lose.
Looking forward to being part of the Gridiron Heroics community and writing future posts! I’ll be back to cover this Thursday’s Bills v Rams Daily Fantasy Football Showdown Slate.
