With another Tuesday comes another ESPN show delivering this week’s College Football Playoff rankings as deemed appropriate by the CFP committee.
ESPN analysts explain why they agree or disagree with the committee’s decisions during the show. One particular explanation has one analyst under heat, as it showed he didn’t watch a single second of at least one of the games he is reporting on.
ESPN’s Booger McFarland is catching heat from Penn State Nittany Lions fans
ESPN analyst and former player Booger McFarland was one of the talking heads voicing his opinion on the committee’s decisions with just two weeks left in the college football regular season.
During the broadcast, McFarland lamented the high ranking of the Penn State Nittany Lions due to the fact that they “struggled with UCLA.” While the term struggling is subjective in this scenario, it is hard to say that Penn State struggled with the UCLA Bruins after having the score at 27-3 with 16 seconds left in the game.
UCLA scored a garbage-time touchdown and made the score 27-11 with a two-point conversion, making the game look closer on paper. McFarland’s statement exposed the fact that he did not watch or just didn’t remember what happened in the game between the Bruins and the Nittany Lions.
Some fans think this is a clear representation of the “SEC bias” that played a big role in expanding the playoffs to 12 teams. Fans think this shows ESPN analysts don’t watch games outside of the SEC and simply formulate opinions on teams from other conferences based on box scores.
Did anyone have the over 1.5 times Booger McFarland would scream that Penn State “struggled with UCLA”

Booger saying Penn State struggled against UCLA says all you need to know about these “analysts.”
SEC bias and they don’t watch the rest of the country. The Bruins were never competitive.

Hey Booger, first time, long time…can you explain to me where PSU ‘struggled’ with UCLA? Thanks, I’ll hang up and listen. pic.twitter.com/WKO4djEWX9

Thank goodness the committee actually knows what happened in the PSU-UCLA game.@BoogerMc318_ has his finger stuck up his nose.

Greg, Joey, Booger: “Penn State isn’t good!”
Penn St beat USC on the road after USC beat the doors off of SEC golden child LSU…. LSU was said to be a top 15 program for 3 months lol.
PSU beat Wisconsin with a backup QB, Oregon barely gets by
SEC tears are the best tears 🤣

Booger is like Finebaum. Doesn’t know s**t outside of SEC cult like conference stuff. Also went to LSU … not the swiftest educated school
— John Gilger (@OCLion) November 20, 2024
I don’t think Booger watches Penn State games. He is an SEC guy

While it would be nearly impossible to closely watch and properly analyze every single college football game by Tuesday, the games played by teams who are already ranked in the top 12 should be the first priority for anyone looking to talk college football.
