The Washington Commanders took a big step in Dan Quinn’s first season as head coach. Washington made it to the NFC championship before they were knocked off by the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
The Commanders made it that far with a team that was in rebuild mode at this time last year. Washington spent February part of early March in 2024 clearing cap space before free agency.
One player they added to the team in the offseason was linebacker Bobby Wagner. The 11-time All-Pro provided veteran leadership to a team that was starting rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Wagner started in all 17 games for Washington, recording 132 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. At 34, the Commanders are deciding to bring the veteran defender back in 2025.
The Washington Commanders are re-signing Bobby Wagner

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Washington is re-signing Wagner on a one-year deal worth up to $9.5 million. He will receive $8 million guaranteed.
“The Commanders are re-signing standout LB Bobby Wagner, as the leader and playmaker is back with Washington, per me and like Garafolo, “Rapoport posted on X. “A key piece, Wagner and the team agreed on a strong 1-year deal worth up to $9.5M with $8M guaranteed. Wagner represented himself on the deal.”

Wagner is a key piece of the Commanders’ defense

The No. 47 pick in the 2012 draft by the Seattle Seahawks is playing with a team for a second consecutive season for the first time since 2021, his final season in Seattle. The former Utah State standout played for the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 and the Seahawks in 2023.
Wagner will be a veteran leader on a team that wants to aim for greater heights in 2025.
