The Wisconsin Badgers had a lot of excitement in seeing what quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. could provide to their program for the season. However, he suffered a non-contact injury in Week 1 against the Miami RedHawks and did not return to the game. Let’s take a closer look at the injury and what was said after the game about Billy Edwards Jr.
Billy Edwards Jr Injured During 2025 Opening Game

Billy Edwards Jr. won the starting quarterback job after transferring this offseason from the Maryland Terrapins and made his debut with the Wisconsin Badgers in their 17-0 home victory in Week 1 over the Miami RedHawks on Thursday. However, things did not end too well for the senior quarterback.
During the second quarter, Billy Edwards Jr. would hand the ball off to the running back and cut to go the opposite direction of the play. However, the quarterback would suffer a non-contact injury to his right leg and leave the game. He would head to the locker room and later join his team on the sidelines in sweats.
Edwards Jr would finish completing 6 of 13 passes for 68 yards and not attempt a run throughout his Wisconsin Badgers debut. While speaking to the Big Ten Network following the game, coach Luke Fickell said he did not have information regarding the injury to Billy Edwards Jr.
“Don’t know anything as of now, but he’s out here with us, and that’s a good sign.”
It appeared to be a good sign that the quarterback was able to walk off to the locker room with no help as well as rejoin the team on the sidelines. However, we do not have any official update at this time, so make sure to keep an eye out here in order to get the latest updates on his status.
