After yet another impressive regular season, the Buffalo Bills were expected to reach the AFC Championship Game to face off against the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately, they came up one step short of achieving that goal. Buffalo was unable to get past the Cincinnati Bengals, losing by a final score of 27-10 in the latest installment of a brutal ending to a season in the playoffs.
That has left fans wondering what the team needs to do this offseason to get over the hump. Josh Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the game, but obviously that isn’t enough. Some would like to see Buffalo move on from head coach Sean McDermott.
No matter what route the Bills choose to go at head coach, a change or two is needed. One thing they could look to do is add an upgrade at the tight end position alongside Dawson Knox or add to the running back position. That could help the offense take the next step.
Bills Could Target Intriguing Tight End In Free Agency
Should the Bills look at adding a tight end this offseason, there is one free agent that has been brought up.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report wrote about needs the Bills have this coming offseason. At the tight end position, Dalton Schultz is a name that was brought up. He would be a perfect fit alongside Knox.
Two other names were also mentioned as possible targets in free agency. Mike Gesicki of the Miami Dolphins and Evan Engram of the Jacksonville Jaguars were also suggested.
“It would also make sense to target a top-tier tight end to pair with Dawson Knox. A few good ones will be available, including the Dallas Cowboys’ Dalton Schultz, the Miami Dolphins’ Mike Gesicki and the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Evan Engram.”
Obviously, of the names on that list, Schultz would be the most intriguing. He ended up playing in 15 games this season for the Dallas Cowboys, catching 57 passes for 577 yards and five touchdowns. Last year, he racked up 78 receptions for 808 yards and eight touchdowns.

Can you imagine a two tight end set involving both Schultz and Knox? That would be a nearly impossible task for opposing defenses to guard. The tight end duo would give Allen a lot of a security blanket to work with.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what the offseason holds for the Bills. There are a lot of directions they can go, but they must get over the hump. A Super Bowl window can close quickly and Buffalo does not want to let this opportunity go.
