The Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions are both teams who expect to compete in their respective conferences. The Lions are coming off a historic season that saw them fall just three points shy of reaching their first ever Super Bowl. The Bills will always consider themselves a contender with Josh Allen under center, and those expectations are only rising after their 3-0 start.
However, could these two franchises be in business well before the trade deadline?
Bills-Lions Pegged To Agree To Significant Trade Prior To Week 4
The NFL Scouting Department at Bleacher Report highlighted how the Lions could make a massive addition to their defensive secondary:
The Detroit Lions’ fast start was just enough to hold off the Cardinals as Detroit jumped out to a 20-7 lead in the second quarter but only managed to win by three points. The team grinded out the win on the ground, running 43 times for 187 yards as David Montgomery led the way with 23 touches, 105 yards and a score.
That helps the Lions keep pace with the Packers in the NFC North, but they still trail the surprisingly undefeated Vikings for the early lead.
Add Now: Trade for CB Kaiir Elam, Buffalo Bills
Cornerback has been an issue for the Lions dating back to last season, and it’s still one of the team’s biggest weaknesses. Meanwhile, B/R’s Kristopher Knox listed Elam as a trade candidate in this week’s NFL Trade Block Big Board column.
The third-year pro may not be the proven commodity the organization is hoping for, but that’s primarily because he’s been stuck behind Christian Benford. The 2022 first-round pick has plenty of talent to potentially contribute right away and be part of the long-term solution at corner.
The Lions could benefit greatly from throwing resources at their secondary. Elam would be a start. Here is a look at Elam’s career stats so far:
