“This Is Huge” Bills Add 6x Pro Bowler And Super Bowl Champion For Playoff Push (Breaking News)

The Buffalo Bills are heading into the most crucial stretch of their season with an 8-4 record and right in the middle of the AFC Wild Card race.  Josh Allen is once again performing like one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and now, he got some serious help on defense.

Buffalo pulled off one of the biggest waiver-wire steals of the 2025 NFL season Wednesday afternoon, claiming six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay hours after the Pittsburgh Steelers shockingly released him. The move instantly bolsters a Bills secondary that has battled injuries all year and positions Buffalo as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

The Buffalo Bills have been plagued by injuries to starting cornerbacks, still Buffalo currently ranks 1st in pass yards allowed (163.2 per game) but has surrendered big plays at critical moments. Slay, still armed with elite ball skills (28 career interceptions, 133 passes defended), brings veteran stability and playoff experience to a unit desperate for reinforcements heading into a brutal December schedule.

Just a few short days ago, Darius Slay’s team was lining up against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills offense in a 26-7 Bills victory at Highmark Stadium.

How Darius Slay Fits Sean McDermott’s Buffalo Bills Defense

Known for heavy zone coverage and pre-snap disguises, Sean McDermott’s scheme is a perfect landing spot for the 34-year-old veteran. Slay can slide into nickel duties or spell injured starters on the boundary, while mentoring younger corners. At just $1.26 million remaining on a veteran-minimum deal, the Buffalo Bills added a former All-Pro for essentially zero cost.

Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane Strikes Again

General manager Brandon Beane has built a reputation for aggressive midseason moves (Von Miller 2022, Amari Cooper 2024), and claiming Slay continues that trend. With the trade deadline passed, the waiver wire became Beane’s playground – and the Buffalo Bills won priority over every other claimant.
