Bill Belichick and the UNC Tar Heels are off to a rough 2-3 start this season.  They’re currently in 15th place in the ACC.  However, that hasn’t stopped Belichick from making sure that his new found hatred for the New England Patriots continues.

Even when it comes to former players.

Despite Drake Maye’s NFL success, Bill Belichick bans UNC from celebrating (Breaking News)

With Bill Belichick’s relationship with his former team becoming stranger by the day, North Carolina’s football team has changed its social media policy:

The Tar Heels program has been suspiciously quiet on the play of Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who was selected with the No. 3 pick last year our of UNC.

Maye starred in Chapel Hill for two seasons as a starter. Throwing for over 4,000 yards and 38 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2022 before following that up with another solid campaign in ’23.

That led to speculation as to why the school had been ignoring Maye’s success in Year 2 — especially after New England’s upset of Josh Allen and the Bills in primetime —with CBS Sports’ Ross Martin reporting:

“According to sources inside the UNC football program, it is a directive from the staff (Bill Belichick) to not tweet/retweet anything Patriots-related. That’s clearly why UNC football has not posted anything from Drake Maye’s electric primetime win over the Buffalo Bills.”

Mere hours after Martin’s post, Carolina’s official football account tweeted out a highlight of one of Maye’s throws to Stefon Diggs where they said: “. @DrakeMaye2 pulling off some magic, where have we seen this before 🤔 … 🔟➡️8️⃣”

Which led to a ton of people calling the university out on X:

“you ain’t slick,” Arif Hasan said.

“They got the message,” Joe Ovies shared.

“Radio silence for the last 12 hours but as soon as they get called out for it they post something. Ok bro,” Brandon Carney commented.

    “BULLYING WORKS,” Unnecessary Roughness replied.

“Yeah someone’s getting fired today,” Zach Bollinger posted.

“I’d be willing to bet Carolina’s social admins lost multiple arguments about this over the course of the year, only to get the phone call this morning telling them to fix the issue they didn’t create. Ah, what an industry,” The Athletic’s Dave Helman speculated.
