Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels started their season off with a brutal loss to the TCU Horned Frogs. The first quarter ended in a 7-7 tie, however, the Horned Frogs would take a 20-7 lead into the half. That lead exploded in the second half and TCU walked away with a 48-14 win.
After the win, TCU didn’t hold back.

According to The Athletic:
Bill Belichick told reporters after the loss that the defeat was comprehensive and didn’t come down to any one thing.
💬 “We played competitively but then just couldn’t sustain it. Obviously, we have a lot of work to do. We need to do a better job all around, coaching, playing, all three phases of the game just wasn’t up to what it needs to be. I know we’re a lot better than that so we need to work on those things and show it on Saturday.
“Give TCU credit, they came in and did a good job. They were clearly the better team tonight. They deserved to win and they did it decisively.
“Anytime you give up two turnovers for touchdowns offensively, that’s not good. We gave up several long plays on defense, where they gained a lot of yards on one play. Too many of those. It wasn’t any one thing, it was a combination of multiple things: too many three-and-outs, too many long plays on defense, and then three turnovers, two for touchdowns, you can’t overcome that.”

North Carolina declined to make a depth chart available before the game, leading the Horned Frogs and coach Sonny Dykes to make the same decision.
The Tar Heels’ scheme and personnel — UNC added around 70 new players from a season ago — were a mystery. But all the secrecy is gone when America watches you on national television.
The Tar Heels didn’t add many major transfers aside from Lopez, but lost major contributors from a season ago when edge rusher Beau Atkinson left for Ohio State, offensive lineman Howard Sampson went to Texas Tech and linebacker Amare Campbell left for Penn State — all teams hoping to contend for the College Football Playoff.
The Tar Heels looked like a team feeling the impact of the talent exodus after Mack Brown was fired.
