Bill Belichick had a lot to say about the craziest play of the 2024 season so far. By now everyone around the NFL has seen the incredible Hail Mary pass that Washington Commanders electric rookie Jayden Daniels completed to get a huge win against the Chicago Bears. That was one of the craziest plays in the history of the league, and the greatest coach of all time had a lot to say about the play and how it went down.
For those who haven’t seen what will go down as the best play of the season, and of the best of all time here is the incredible Hail Mary walk-off:

Bill Belichick Calls Out Bears Players For Hail Mary
Belichick, like many fans, was absolutely shocked by the play and he specifically called out the Bears coaching staff and players for not being ready for that situation. The legendary coach gave all of his perspective on the situation when he was on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday. Specifically, he went after Tyrique Stevenson who was out to lunch on that play, talking smack to the opposing team fans while the play was happening:
“Obviously this is a ridiculous play, [Stevenson] doesn’t get the call, doesn’t know how they’re going to play it,” Belichick said.
“He has no idea what’s going on and runs over there and jumps up and volleyballs it up in the air for a game-losing play. It was terrible.”

Bill went on to praise the incredible rookie Daniels for being able to make that play happen and specifically:
doing “a great job of running around and extending the play”
They deserve all the credit for being able to make the play happen, but Bill certainly thought there was no way this should have gone down, and that it was an awful execution by the Bears to give the game away.
Stevenson apologized for his idiotic act on the final play of the game and vowed that this would never happen again.
“To Chicago and teammates my apologies for lack of awareness and focus …. The game ain’t over until zeros hit the clock. Can’t take anything for granted. Notes taken, improvement will happen,” Stevenson wrote on social media.
Of course, Bill’s attention would be on the defense and how they could let that happen, and usually when it comes to plays like this, both the offense and the defense have to make it happen. This miracle play will certainly be talked about for years to come and what a way to start a new rivalry between the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks from this year’s draft.
