Last year, Michigan shocked the country and won the Big Ten Championship. However, they are not the favorite to repeat. Here are the 2022 Big Ten Championship odds.
Ohio State is the favorite (-225)
Despite having lost to Michigan in 2021, Ohio State seems poised for a major breakout year. The Buckeyes missed not only the college football playoffs but also the Big Ten championship game.
This is bad news for college football as Ohio State is playing with a chip on their shoulders. Quarterback, CJ Stroud, has a year under his belt and will be the key for Ohio State.
Ohio State consistently reloads and heading into 2022, they are indeed reloaded. The Buckeyes have the 4th best-recruiting class in 2022 and the best class in 2023.
They feature one of the most highly anticipated receivers in the country, Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He gained national attention when he caught a bowl record 347 yards versus Utah in the Rose Bowl.
The pressure is on the Buckeyes in the Big Ten.
Michigan is far behind, in second (+700)
Michigan is used to be doubted. The Wolverines were doubted in 2021. Now, even with a Big Ten Title and a playoff appearance, they are still doubted.
A lot has been made of their lack of recruiting in the 2023 class. However, it should not take away from the 9th class they brought in for 2022 and the experience of success they had last year.
Will Michigan have a hangover? Who knows, but this is a familiar place for the Wolverines.
Michigan State is surprisingly low (+2500)
The Spartans are coming off a highly successful season, finishing the regular season 11-2 and beating Pitt in a bowl game. However, early odds have them out of the running for the Big Ten.
The Spartans did lose elite running back Kenneth Walker III to the NFL Draft. Replacing Walker will be the deciding factor in the Spartans’ success. Additionally, they do have a difficult schedule facing Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Michigan.
However, Michigan State most likely will be in the running for the Big Ten Title. Mel Tucker defied expectations in 2021, and 2022 might be no different.
