There is one thing every single college football fan loves, Power Rankings. Now they will never agree on the rankings themselves. They will agree that they need to be done after every single week. You know what, hands down I was wrong.
I said the ACC was the second best conference in football and I was so wrong this conference is the prince and the SEC is the King. Top to bottom, all of these teams can beat each other, making the Big 12 number 2 in conference Power Rankings. I apologize to the readers for my mistake, but credit to me for admitting it and coming clean. Yell at me for that on twitter.
- Oklahoma State: Now remember Power Rankings are based on teams playing each other. I trust Sanders and Gundy vs. every other team in this conference. I understand they haven’t played anyone but they have just handled their business. I will be justified this week after they beat Baylor.
- Baylor: The Bears are here because of their great head coach Dave Aranda and the fact that they can play defense and have a balance offense. This team won’t beat you with flash but they handle their business and don’t make mistakes. They have only given up 67 points in 4 games, I don’t care which 4 teams they played that is impressive. Like I mentioned above we will see who really is the best team this week.
- Kansas: They are in this spot because they handle their business on the field. They were only picked to win 2 games this year, it is not even October and they have doubled that. Leipold was the right fit for this team and Jalon Daniels is so dangerous throwing and running the ball. If he stays healthy watch out for the Jayhawks.
- Kansas State: The only blemish on their resume so far is a huge look ahead spot at Tulane. They physically dominated Oklahoma, it was not a fluke win. Oklahoma did not have any weird upset plays that lead to upsets, no rather Adrian Martinez just balled out. He was amazing in this game and it isn’t crazy to say maybe we could have a Sunflower State battle for the Big 12 title.
- Oklahoma: Yes they did just lose to KSU, but remember the first paragraph. Every team in this conference can beat any team in this conference. Furthermore, I think Brent fixes some issue on defense and Gabriel played a great game he was just out dueled by Martinez. Oklahoma will be fine and somehow they always find their way to the title game so breathe Sooner fans breathe. It is only the week 5 Power Rankings, not the end of the regular season.
- Iowa State: Matt Campbell has done a hell of a coaching job this year. Replacing big starters like Purdy and Hall and beating rival Iowa. This is a solid team, not great, not bad, also they will be in every game and can grit out some wins in this Big 12. I expect them to finish somewhere in the middle and build momentum going into next year, maybe without Campbell?
- Texas Tech : Offense, Offense, Offense. I absolutely love watching Donovan Smith play QB in Lubbock. They are and exciting team to watch because of the high tempo. They will take out more teams in the Big 12 you might think they shouldn’t but can be slowed down and that is not good for the defense always being on the field. Either way Texas Tech beat bigger brother and are very exciting to watch.
- Texas: Texas is not back, not yet this year but I think they could be. Right now, week 5 this is where they belong. If Quinn Ewers comes back I think they hands down run away with this conference. I think he is that good. I think the defense and all the other players will rally around seeing him ball out. I truly believe Texas is back, because of Ewers. Without Texas is a very mid team this year and will have to wait another year to be relevant.
- T.C.U.: I will be 100% honest just like I am every time I give picks on Units Only Go Up, where I am 59% on college picks this year. I have not seen a lot of T.C.U. this year they have a good core including a veteran QB in Duggan who lead them to a nice win over SMU. I will have to watch vs. Oklahoma if they can compete in the trenches and on defense. They don’t have to win to prove they are a good team just contend vs. a very pissed off Sooners Team.
- West Virginia: If we were power ranking atmosphere and songs, Country Road and the Mountaineers would be 1 by a mile. Too bad we are power ranking teams. I like their offense, I like their defense. JT Daniels is a very good coach and they have NFL weapons around them. Neil Brown is killing this team and will continue to lose them games. He could have went for a 4th and one vs Pitt to all but seal the win but instead punted. The rushing game was gaining 8 yards a clip at that point but he played not to lose and did not play to win. If they toss him in the season the Mountaineers can mover up if not, sorry. I will be power ranking all power 5 conferences each week. Hit the twitter for the boys and comment and like and argue. I can argue with you pathetic fan bases all day about how your team is too low. I am smarter, better looking and have more money than all of you so come get some heat.
