Deion Sanders’ Media Day Opening Remarks
In true Prime fashion, Coach Deion Sanders began the media day with a touch of flair, removing his signature PRIME sunshades before connecting with the reporters. His opening words were a mix of gratitude and ambition. Sanders commended the NCAA commissioner, appreciated the support from PAC-12 coaches, and acknowledged the role of Well Off Media in promoting the brand’s vision.
His statements were not just about the accolades but about building a culture of respect and excellence around the Colorado Buffalos.
Sanders’ Coaching Philosophy
Coach Prime’s philosophy goes beyond winning games; it’s about nurturing young men into becoming well-rounded men. He emphasized the importance of playing time for recruits, stating,
“All you kids in high school: when we sign you, we want you to play.” Last season, 17 high school players were signed, and 13 of them saw game time. Additionally, 20 freshmen, including seven walk-ons, played, underscoring Sanders’ commitment to giving young talent a chance to shine.
With 159 seasons of NFL experience among the Colorado coaching staff, Sanders is dedicated to leveraging this wealth of knowledge to develop his players both on and off the field.
Coach Sanders’ sons: Shilo & Shedeur Interactions with Media
Shilo and Shedeur Sanders, Coach Prime’s sons, also faced the media, handling questions with poise and confidence. Shilo expressed his respect for the new additions to the team, highlighting the positive changes brought by the new coaching staff and players.
Shedeur, in particular, addressed critical inquiries about Colorado’s upcoming season with fearless candor, effectively silencing skeptics. The media seemed to focus their scrutiny on Shedeur, yet he responded with maturity and resilience, embodying the values instilled by his father.
The reporters probed with eerily dubious inquiries in regard to Colorado’s upcoming season. A reporter even asked if the team was prepared to lose certain games. Shedeur fearlessly answered questions silencing any and all critics. While Shilo posited great reverence to Colorado’s new additions, from players to coaches and staff.
What’s new in Boulder:
Colorado Coaches
One of the significant announcements at media day was the hiring of new offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, formerly with the local Denver Broncos, and defensive coordinator Robert Livingston, formerly with the Baltimore Ravens.
Coach Prime raved about the relationship Shurmur has with star quarterback Shedeur Sanders, and the expectations of them together leading a dynamic offense this season, unlike last season under the thumb of former Buffs’ offensive coordinator (Sean Lewis).
Colorado’s former defensive coordinator (Chip Kelly) fell to blame for the Buffalos’ rocky defensive performance last season. The Colorado defense appeared unorganized often showcasing blown coverages, missed gap assignments, and the inability to stop the run and crossing routes all season. Livingston has a proven track record of being able to adapt and win on the defensive side of the ball in Boulder.
Additionally, weapons like the recent arrival of Pro Football Hall of Famer, Warren Sapp, as a Colorado grad assistant only reinforces further credibility.

Sanders’ Legacy and Vision
When asked about his legacy, Deion Sanders shared a heartfelt perspective on his role as a coach. He emphasized being a father and mentor, focusing on instilling a winning attitude and guiding young men toward manhood. Sanders believes that true success goes beyond wins and losses; it’s about caring for players as human beings.
In an era where many coaches prioritize on-field performance over personal development, Sanders’ holistic approach is a game changer. His commitment to nurturing his players’ growth both as athletes and individuals sets a new standard in college football coaching.
Deion Sanders’ media day was a powerful testament to his vision for the Colorado Buffalos. As Sanders continues to build his legacy, one thing is clear: under his leadership, the Colorado Buffalos are not just playing football—they are becoming champions on and off the field.
With great excitement for the 2024 season, the fans should expect a 10+ win season and a conference title. There’s no doubt about how Colorado will start the season, what’s under a microscope is how they finish the season. Great talent is great talent, but a great opponent is a great opponent. Colorado faces their tougher opponents later in the season. With greater additions and greater morale, there are no excuses.
