The No. 5 Texas Longhorns are preparing to play the No. 4 Arizona State Sun Devils on Jan. 1 in the Chic-fil-A Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
The Longhorns made the quarterfinal round of the College Football Playoff after disposing of Clemson, the ACC champion, in a 38-24 win at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The Longhorns played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 7. The Georgia Bulldogs knocked off Texas 22-19 in overtime.
Texas is hoping for a better result against ASU, but one facet of the game will remain the same. The Longhorns were not allowed to have their mascot, Bevo, in attendance at the SEC championship.
Texas is not allowed to have Bevo in Atlanta
Per a statement by the Peach Bowl, Texas will not have Bevo in the stadium when they take on the Sun Devils.
“We love all of the great traditions of college football and no doubt, Bevo is one of the best, but the unfortunate reality is there simply is not enough room on the sidelines of Mercedes-Benz Stadium,” the statement reads.
“With the constraints of the stadium and prioritizing the safety of Bevo, the players, all the network cameras, support staff, cheerleaders, and photographers, we unfortunately will not be able to have Bevo on the field at the CFP Quarterfinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.”

Texas fans on social media didn’t think the announcement was peachy.
College football fans upset with Peach Bowl announcement
“Arizona st can’t bring their mascot either then. Billion dollar franchise and didn’t think of adding more room on sidelines. Another soft post,” posted a fan.
“Add this to the list of reasons why the playoffs need to abandon the traditional bowls and play the games at home stadiums except the national title,” suggested one fan.
“Texas should opt out and force their hand,” wrote another.
“Look we all know what happened. After Georgia FAFO at the Sugar Bowl and almost ended up with a dead puppy some Georgia booster who’s got connections to Mercedes Benz Stadium made sure Bevo was kept out indefinitely. Not enough room?! Y’all scared,” posted a fan.
“Bad move. Ban all mascots then,” wrote another.
“There are FCS schools that have made room for Bevo,” posted a fan.
