The Cincinnati Bengals had one of the worst defenses in the NFL in 2024 despite having an elite pass rusher on the roster in Trey Hendrickson. Hendrickson is entering the final year of his contract and does not have a new contract.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Tuesday morning,

“Sources: NFL sack leader Trey Hendrickson, who has not received the new contract he has been looking for, is not attending the Bengals’ mandatory minicamp.”

It is not a surprise that Hendrickson is holding out. This has been one of the biggest offseason stories for Cincinnati. Wide receivers Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase both got new contract extensions. The Bengals need to give Hendrickson before the start of the 2025 NFL season, or he may continue to hold out or ask to be traded.

Cincinnati Bengals Fans React To Trey Hendrickson Holding Out

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson (91) sacks Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson (3) in the first quarter of the NFL Week 18 game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025.

With Hendrickson holding out of mandatory minicamp, there are a lot of Bengals fans who are not thrilled about him holding out. They mentioned on Twitter:

Bengals front office WORST in the NFL. They’ll never even sniff a superbowl again with these idiots running the show

    — Joe’s Picks (@Joes_Picks) June 10, 2025

Bengals are trolling, how are you not paying this man 😭

    — SportswithSeb🏀🏈 (@Sportswithseb) June 10, 2025

The Bengals are seriously tanking their own stock by not focusing on defense

    — Jason Petrucci (@Jpet_7) June 10, 2025

The NFL needs to launch an investigation on the Bengals to see how they actually negotiate contracts with players

    — CouchCriticGM (@CriticGm) June 10, 2025

Bengals are literally going to try to win every game 63-60 this year

    — Barry “Bonds” Bufano (@barrybufano) June 10, 2025

It is not a surprise to see this fanbase upset about what is transpiring. The Bengals could very well have one of the top offenses in the NFL once again in 2025 and could have one of the worst defenses once again. Hendrickson last season recorded 46 tackles, 17.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and six pass deflections.

He is 30 years old, and this is the best chance for him to get a massive payday. Cincinnati has not yet given a new contract to Hendrickson, but they also haven’t signed rookie Shemar Stewart yet to his rookie contract as well.
