It was a shock when the Philadelphia Eagles signed running back Saquon Barkley last offseason after he played with the New York Giants for the first six years of his NFL career. His seventh year in the NFL with Philadelphia was the best of his career.

He helped the Eagles win another Lombardi Trophy. Philadelphia’s offense was totally different with him in the backfield. It will be interesting to see if he can repeat the performance, he had last season or not. Where does Barkley rank among the running back lists on pro football focus before the 2025 NFL season?
Philadelphia Eagles Running Back Saquon Barkley Ranks 2nd On PFF Running Backs List

A lot of people thought Barkley was the best running back in the NFL during the 2024 season. Well, Trevor Sikkema of pro football focus created a list of his top 32 running backs entering the 2025 NFL season. To no surprise, he had Barkley in the Top 2, but the Eagles star running back was ranked number two. Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens was ranked number one on this list.
Sikkema said about the Eagles star running back being ranked second on PFF’s list,
“Barkley is a big reason why the Philadelphia Eagles are the reigning Super Bowl champions. He earned an 82.7 PFF rushing grade in 2024 and talied the most runs of 10 yards or more (55). He also led the NFL with 2,504 rushing yards.”
During the regular season, Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards on 345 carries and 13 touchdowns, along with averaging 5.8 yards per carry. He also caught 33 passes for 278 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 8.4 yards per reception.
He ranked first in the NFL in carries and rushing yards in 2024, but Barkley ranked eighth in rushing touchdowns in 2024. There is a very good chance that he could repeat those numbers again for this team if he does stay healthy. Will Shipley and A.J. Dillon is the backup running backs for Philadelphia.
With the way Barkley performed in 2024, there is no doubt that he is a top two running back in the NFL. However, some think that he should be ranked ahead of Henry on this list, but there is a reason why both of those running backs are being the paid the most money at their position.
