The Baltimore Ravens will kick off the NFL season on Thursday when they travel to Arrowhead Stadium to battle the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Thursday’s tilt will undoubtedly be personal for Baltimore, as Kansas City bested the AFC North squad in last season’s AFC Championship Game. Most notably, quarterback Lamar Jackson will seek vengeance and retribution after struggling to score points in last year’s playoff defeat.
However, Jackson believes that if he had been at full strength last season, the outcome of the AFC title contest would have shaken out differently. Per the Washington Post, Jackson hinted at playing through a lower-body injury during last season’s short-lived playoff run, claiming that constantly throwing the ball led to his team’s downfall. Jackson’s comments were brushed aside, with many fans criticizing the signal-caller for his inability to adapt against a stout Kansas City defense.
Fans Critique Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson on AFC Championship Game Remarks
According to the Washington Post through Matt Lane of the KC Sports Network, Lamar Jackson felt one-dimensional in last season’s playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs:
How I’m feeling right now, I wish I was feeling like this, body-wise, in the AFC championship. We would have won the game … I know if my legs were good, we would have won that s—. We wouldn’t have even had to throw the ball. F— throwing the ball.
Baltimore Ravens two-time MVP Lamar Jackson pointed at his body feeling weak heading into the AFC Championship Game last January. Last season, Jackson played 16 games before sitting out the regular season finale for rest. In his six-year NFL career, 2023 marked the most games the former Heisman Trophy Award winner had started. Following a career game against the Houston Texans in the NFL’s divisional playoff round, Jackson stumbled against the Chiefs the following weekend.
In last year’s AFC Championship Game, Jackson went 20-of-37 for 272 yards and a touchdown. He also added eight carries for 54 yards but fumbled once and threw a backbreaking interception late in the second half to seal a KC victory. Jackson’s postseason struggles are well documented, with the signal-caller throwing just six touchdowns to six interceptions in six career playoff starts. With Jackson’s playoff woes apparent, fans were quick to jump on the dual-threat MVP for his remarks about passing the football:

love lamar jackson but if we worried about his running more than his arm throwing then he shoulda been a wide receiver or something
