The Pittsburgh Steelers face off against the Bengals this week. With that being said, there is some bad injury news coming out of the Steel city. One player was limited and one missed practice. Let’s get into who these players are and what it means for the Steelers.

Steelers RT Chuks Okorafor Misses Practice with Back Injury
Chuks Okorafor misses practice Thursday with a back injury.

    Chukwuma Okorafor

Chuks did not practice on Thursday with a back injury. Per SI. Not a lot of news has come out on how limited he will be going into week one. This is a bad start to the season losing your starting right tackle. The Steelers lack credible depth on the offensive line in general. Chuks just signed a $30 million extension with the Steelers expected to be entrenched at the starter. If Chuks does miss any kind of time that would mean new addition Jesse Davis would be inserted as the starter. Davis was absolutely booed by fans and ran out of Miami where he signed with the Vikings. Well, he did not make it very far for them either. He was signed as an emergency option and depth, definitely not the starter. The already bad offensive line just got worse.

Steelers WR Diontae Johnson was an elite wide receiver in 2021 - Behind the Steel Curtain
Diontae Johnson is still nursing a shoulder injury that happened in the final preseason game

    Diontae Johnson

Johnson has been limited in practice, he injured his shoulder in the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions. The injury came from an amazing sideline catch from Mitch Trubisky. Initially, Mike Tomlin down played the injury and said he expected Johnson to be available week one. With Johnson’s shoulder being worse than anticipated it begs to question if he will be available week one. Johnson is a key contributor for the Steelers however, I am less concerned. The Steelers biggest depth position is wide receiver and will give young guys like George Pickens to make an immediate impact. Moving on his absence will be felt however the Steelers can get out of Cincinnati with a win without him. It will be interesting to see if Johnson suits up week one. We will keep a close eye on this as it develops.
