Conservatives Turn NFL Boycott Into “Anti-Woke” Spectacle
The push for a Turning Point USA-style “anti-woke halftime show” comes amid MAGA outrage over the NFL’s selection of Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican superstar known for challenging gender norms and supporting LGBTQ+ causes. Critics say the league’s choice represents a cultural shift they no longer recognize as American.
Conservatives online are calling for a complete boycott. One user wrote, “Everyone who watches NFL should be protesting and boycotting it. NFL is an AMERICAN sport. The WOKE FOOTBALL LEAGUE decided to say ‘f** you’ America and bring an Anti-American, cross dressing libtard to the Halftime show.”*
Another echoed the sentiment: “If the NFL wants to hire an anti-American woke performer for their half-time entertainment at the Super Bowl this season, they do so without this American’s support.”
The outrage ties into a broader cultural divide. Many critics trace the NFL’s “woke turn” back to the 2016 anthem protests, when players began kneeling and the league painted “End Racism” in end zones. “Go woke, go broke! Nevertheless, the boycott movement by the conservatives is still increasing online. Given that the so-called anti-woke halftime show is either a meme or a reality, a culture war on the stage of the largest sporting venue in America does not seem to decelerate.
