Coming off a two game win streak, the West Virginia Mountaineers have a big game against Texas this Saturday. Neal brown is looking to make a statement at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium. The 105th meeting of the Backyard Brawl has officially come to an end. West Virginia was unable to complete the upset against Pitt. Daniels made his debut as a Mountaineer and gave it all he had to make an impact on the game. The 2022 Walter Camp Award watch list has just been released. The Walter Camp Award is given to college football’s best player. The Walter Camp Football Foundation gives the award, and a list of 52 names has been released. Of the 52 names listed, 44 were offensive players (22 quarterbacks, 12 running backs, and 10 receivers/ tight ends), and 8 were from the defense. West Virginia offensive lineman Zach Frazier has been named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list. The second watchlist Frazier has been named too, recently Zach was also named to the Rimington Award watchlist. The Wuerffel Trophy is considered college footballs premier award for community service. The trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, a 1996 national championship winning quarterback of the University of Florida Gators. The Wuerffel Trophy has a voting emphasis on Community Service. Pat White is finding his way back into the game of football, the L.A. Chargers just hired him as their Offensive Assistant. West Virginia Mountaineer fans across the country rejoice and have sent there congratulations to White since news broke. At 36 years old, Pat is now on the coaching side of football. Most recently, White was on the coaching staff at Campbell University assisting with the Quarterbacks. Additionally, Pat White has also coached at Alcorn State, South Florida, and Alabama State. Each year the Jim Thorpe Award is handed out to the best defensive back in college football. Two Buckeyes were able to land on the list. Sophomore Denzel Burke and Junior Ronnie Hickman were both named to the preseason watchlist. The full list includes 35 total backs, representing 10 conferences and one independent university. West Virginia was able to have a center land a spot on the Rimington Award watchlist. The Rimington Award is given to the best center in college football. West Virginia’s own Zach Frazier earned himself a place on the list. Zach Frazier is currently a sophomore continuing to make a name for himself. The West Virginia Mountaineers will face the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Backyard Brawl for the first time in over a decade. Taking place at the newly named Acrisure Stadium, Pitt will be hosting the game. One of the longest running rivalries, the Backyard Brawl has occurred 104 times dating back to 1895.
