James White retires. A three time champion, he represents “Do your job” more than anyone. He will be missed and will never be forgotten. Pro Career Pick 130 in the 4th round of the 2014 NFL Draft, White is most known for scoring the championship clinching touchdown at the end of Super Bowl 51. Down at one point 28 – 3, the Patriots mounted the greatest Super Bowl comeback in NFL History and won in overtime 34 – 28. However, that’s just the beginning. His story is one of great personal sacrifice and knowing how to make yourself indispensable. Becoming…

The preseason coaches’ poll is one where all the coaches of college football rank teams before any game has been played. USC is rated well at No. 15. What Does It Mean for the Program? The Trojans are still recognized as one of the most talented teams in Division 1 Football, even coming off of a four and eight year. Last season is viewed as a fluke, especially with the hiring of former Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley. This ranking puts to rest some of the USC overhype, which would have been in overdrive if they were to start the…

Quarterback Mac Jones might be the fan favorite, but the defense has been the best unit. A summary of the first week of fully padded practice. Who Stood Out Second year defensive tackle Barmore’s goal this year is to get better against the run and he looks to fit the bill. Last season he had 46 tackles, with three being tackles for loss and one and a half of them being sacks. He also had nine quarterback hits. During training camp this year he’s been dominant. None of the backup offensive linemen can handle him and he’s been the most…

College Football awards are given out at the end of the season, therefore there’s a lot of watchlists. Here’s the rest of them, plenty of USC players represented. Butkus Award Created in 1985 the Butkus award is given to those who are the best at the position of linebacker and who give back to the community. A USC player has only won this one other time, Chris Claiborne in 1998. Currently the Trojans don’t have any LBs like this, this is one of the positions of concern for USC. Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Established in 1986 for the nations top…

As week one of training camp is done, teams can have full padded practice and contact. Here’s a preview of what’s to come in week two. Offensive Line In terms of normal padding and contact, the OL only used the blocking sled on Saturday. All their other drills were more fundamental, like lining up correctly and going through the motions of a typical offensive play. Tackles Trent Brown and Isaiah Wynn switched sides in the Spring and continue to get used to Brown on the left and Wynn on the right. With injuries to rookies Chasen Hines and Andrew Stueber.…

Training camp is a month. Whether it’s who stood out, who disappointed, or who got injured. These are the takeaways after one week. Who Stood Out Bledsoe has been the biggest surprise of camp so far. He’s been everywhere and has had multiple pass breakups, not something expected out of a late round draft pick. He missed last year due to a wrist/hand injury but this only made him hungrier to prove himself. Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Devante Parker has shown his talent. Talent was never the issue with Parker, it was inconsistency and injuries, which defined his time…

Lincoln Riley held a press conference at his first Pac-12 Media Day. While he touched on all the transfers he’s gotten to Los Angeles and even former Oklahoma players Hollywood Brown and Kyler Murray. The main theme of his media availability was the many special benefits of being the head coach at USC. Uniqueness “How involved and how passionate our former players are . . . They take so much pride in this program,” said Riley. “They were part of one of the greatest runs that this game has ever seen. To see how open they’ve been for us, how…

As part of the college football offseason each conference chooses the best projected players for the upcoming year. USC players were well represented on the preseason All-Pac-12 team. Whether it’s based on last season or the potential of promising freshmen, it’s always interesting to see who lives up to their expectations and who was overlooked. Offense The trojans had four members on the first team offense. Sophomore quarterback Caleb Williams, junior wide receiver Jordan Addison, sophomore WR Mario Williams and redshirt senior offensive lineman Andrew Vorhees. Last year at Oklahoma Williams (Caleb) passed for 1,912 yards with 21 touchdowns and…

The New England Patriots extend defensive tackle Davon Godchaux by two years for $20.8 million with a $17.85 million guaranteed at signing. What it means for the Patriots Last year he arguably had his best season after signing in New England as a free agent after four years with the Miami Dolphins. He had 65 total tackles, two of them were for loss and one of them resulted in a sack. He also forced a fumble and had five quarterback hits. The Patriots have struggled on the defensive line in recent years. They’ve lacked “big people”, and it’s resulted in…

After visiting USC June 17th, Washington born four star offensive lineman Micah Banuelos commits to the Trojans for their 2023 class. What it Means for USC Another indication of what new head coach Lincoln Riley views as the weakness of the offense. USC always has a good one, but it’s been in spite of the bad offensive line play. Riley’s offense doesn’t work without an, at least average, offensive line. He wants to run the ball and create play action opportunities for his quarterbacks. It resulted in two heisman winners and three starting NFL QBs, I think Riley knows how…
