The Giants got down to 80 players by moving their maimed to the IR/PUP lists. The promising rookie linebacker Darrian Beavers and tight ends Ricky Seals-Jones and Andre Miller were put on I.R. Meanwhile, offensive linemen Nick Gates and Matt Peart will begin the season on the physically unable to perform list, and because they are on the PUP we now know we won’t be seeing them in a game until at least week five. By this time next week, we will know the final 53-man roster. There has been tight competition in some areas and some mystery in…

The Giants played the Bengals and came out with a 25 to 22 victory, for what that is worth. What is valuable is the apparent comfort level the team has with their new playbooks.  This isn’t merely a team knocking off the rust and auditioning backups. This is a team with a first-time head coach, first-time coordinators, and a host of new players developing brand new playbooks. Who the Giants play does not matter; how they handle their assignments and coaching does. Passing Game With all the injuries to the offensive line, there was some skepticism about whether Daniel Jones…

One can’t get too wrapped up in last year’s statistics when trying to foresee the next season’s outcome because a lot changes yearly. That being said, the Giants are facing four out of the top five rushing offenses and featured backs Christian McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliott, David Montgomery, Aaron Jones, Travis Etienne, D’Andre Swift, and Dalvin Cook. Forget Daniel Jones, and pass rush be damned; the Giant’s success this year revolves entirely around their ability to run and stop the run.  The chart below depicts the offensive rankings and star players of each week’s opponents.  https://gridironheroics.com/fans-should-stop-expecting-a-high-flying-offense-and-settle-for-consistency/       Opponent   …

When teams begin to trim down rosters, people start praying for miracles that someone else’s castaways will be a better fit on their team. Fans should not do that to themselves this preseason. If your team is dumpster diving at this time of the year, they will likely be in the standings’ dumpster all season. It is not a good sign. I am slightly pleased to tell you the first round of cuts has nothing more for the Giant’s faithful to salivate over. In the last few days, they claimed CB Olaijah Griffin off waivers from Buffalo and signed OL…

Two years ago the Giants drafted Andrew Thomas fourth overall and with that number came great expectations. By midway, through the season and after competing against a murder’s row of pass rushers many were ready to proclaim a bust. Now he is considered the cornerstone of our offense. Aaron Robinson now has the spotlight aimed at him. He is little more than a rookie this year after core muscle surgery last had him sidelined for the majority of the season.  All ready the vultures circle, expecting no less than a top ten starter out of a third-round pick coming off…

The annual Giant’s -Patriots preseason game is now behind us and we have gained as much insight as one can expect considering the patriots played none of their starters. Offensive Line & Quarterbacks You may have heard some panic about the offensive line yet the New York quarterbacks had more time in the pocket Thursday than they have had in the last two years combined. The pressures Daniel Jones faced were directly the result of the two rookies, Joshua Ezeudu and Evan Neal finding their footing in their first pro game. Ezeudu saw some time earlier and longer than expected…

After early observations and team interviews, it seems certain that head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka are creating an offensive scheme that will feature a good amount of pre-snap motion as well as pre-snap and after-snap reads. In other words, there will be a lot of moving parts and receivers will be expected to make adjustments after the huddle based on how the defense lines up. They may also have to make adjustments after the snap based on if the defense was disguising something. The wide receiving corps has spoken positively about the freedom the new offense…

No, this is not a comparison of mobile quarterbacks, this is a reality check of what the roster is capable of. The Giants are a new team with new philosophies, players, and chemistry that need to be developed. Kansas City was ranked 4th in passing yardage and 8th in scoring offense while the Bills ranked 9th and 1st respectively. Both teams have established regimes and have already rebuilt their lines. The quarterbacks have well-developed chemistry with their receivers and familiarity with the playbook. If the Giants were to attempt to mimic either of these two teams they will fail. But…

Most of the concerns in the media seems to be focused on Daniel Jones and the passing attack, but the running game will also be changing and will show the characteristics of a Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka coaching marriage. Kansas City was 16th in rushing last year with 1,955 yards as Darrel Williams and Clyde Edwards Helaire split carries.  Their rushing game which features a significant amount of RPO, or run-pass option, was right in the middle of the league. This is a pretty high ranking considering they only ran 38% of the time and the run game was…

It may be fun to predict the performance of players, but one fact that looms over us all is that old cliche that football is a war of attrition and typically the healthier teams prevail. The Giant’s depth being a concern might seem like a ridiculous understatement after the last decade of snake-bitten rosters, but it is a new season. The question at hand is at what position groups is the team most vulnerable. How many injuries can they endure before the season goes down the crapper? I am rating the urgency based on how great the drop-off in talent…
