Folks, I’m not going to mince words on this. I just submitted this vote a few minutes ago to Craig Haley at STATS/PERFORM as part of the official FCS poll ballot week five — and it was a toss-up in many ways. Later Monday? I’m going to develop more of a postseason/playoff picture (seeding and at-large projection, etc.) because there are trickier dynamics when it comes to the postseason picture. The FCS annually has eight top seeds who don’t have to play on Thanksgiving weekend. They can go home and enjoy turkey with family and friends without worrying about a…

We are now in October, conference games are underway en masse, and FCS Selection Sunday gets closer and closer to us every day. We present to you the instant FCS Week Five reaction. First, let’s recognize the 5-0 club now that we’re in October. Montana, Delaware, and Holy Cross — take a bow and welcome to the club. The robe, cigars, and brandy are ready for this elite FCS club. So when was the last time these three programs hit 5-0 in a full season?: Montana in its national runner-up season of 2009, Delaware in 2010 in its national runner-up…

Each week until FCS Selection Sunday (Nov. 20), I’ll release my take on the 24-team FCS Playoff picture situation. It takes into account eight national seeds who get a first-round bye, along with at-large candidates. Lastly,  conferences that may not have a top 20 team (yet), are indicated — but like March Madness hoops, as they get a conf. title bid. See the full projection below. When it’s all said and done and this country is wolfing down some turkey in November? We will have 24 FCS programs aiming for a national title. The rest (unless they’re in the HBCUs)…

That’s the goal of these programs.…

Well FCS gang, October starts now, and we all understand that by November? We’ll know a whole helluva lot more about the FCS postseason picture. But the truth is, we already know — by October’s birth — some things about this year. So who is still undefeated? The following are 4-0 heading into October: Montana, Weber State, Delaware, Holy Cross, Jackson State, and North Carolina Central. Sacramento State is 3-0 with a blowout FBS win and Austin Peay (4-1) is eight points away from 5-0. BMAC’S FCS POLL BALLOT VOTE GOING INTO OCTOBER: Brian’s week-four vote in the FCS poll.…

The cliche of David over Goliath in sports is way overused, but the truth is that when an FCS program beats an FBS — it’s a big deal. Today, we look at FCS over FBS wins in database form. FBS programs have more scholarships available, bigger stadiums, and more money. While FCS coaches will tell you that their first string can hang with an FBS first string, it’s many times the second string makes the difference late — and FCS teams generally don’t go deeper than two-deep (FBS teams can). With Sacramento State’s blowout win over Colorado State on Sept.…

Over-Hyped By Fans? The Detroit Lions may have secured the steal of the 2022 NFL draft, which would make two years in a row for the franchise. Some Detroit Lions fans believed Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez was over-hyped coming out of the 2022 draft. He came in at just under six feet tall and 230 pounds. Rodriguez’s measurements were not that impressive for an NFL Linebacker. His game tapes at Oklahoma State proved the kid could play football. However, the notion was that Detroit Lions drafted him to play special teams. The sixth-round draft pick has been a pleasant surprise in…

Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell will be the first to tell you that there are no moral victories in the game of football. However, there are some positive takeaways after a hard-fought loss in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The 2022 version of the Detroit Lions has a different mentality. The Lions Have A Run Game Even with the injury to the top two RGs on the offensive line Detroit ran the ball effectively on Sunday. The Lions racked up 181 yards and three touchdowns on the ground on one of the best defensive lines…

I’ll go ahead and say it — my alma mater? The University of Florida? I’m embarrassed to say I (barely) graduated from the place. Why? Because of the much smarter people I apparently graduated with. U-of-F’s fans and alumni are spoiled brats, and I think we all know it. And they’re the No. 1 problem with the Gator Football machine’s demise that has been going on for more than a decade. I love Gainesville with all my heart, and I’ll never forget my time there in the 1990s. I was lucky enough as a student to cover my college for…

It’s time for my FCS college football poll ballot vote, and I owe it to our readers to make it publish — even though this is a stab in the sunlight — as none of us know exactly what will happen in the preseason, but at least it’s sunny, right? The FCS national college football poll came out (Monday, Aug. 8) — you can check it out at NCAA’s FCS 2022, with notes  MY VOTE (BELOW): Rule is? If you vote for a team that didn’t get a vote from another voter? It doesn’t register. That explains why a school…
