The start of the 2022 season brought a rough four weeks to Houston. After blowing fourth quarter leads in their first two games and a fourth quarter tie in Chicago, the Texans mustered a valiant effort against the Chargers late in last week’s game. Although they came within 3 points of the Chargers with less than 10 minutes to go, still they could not follow through with a win. Week 5 brings us to the first Texans v Jaguars game of the year. Two regular season games; two terrible outcomes for the Houston Texans. Both games saw the Texans go into the 4th quarter with leads over their opponents. As far as most NFL rivalries go, the Colts vs Texans rivalry has been pretty much one-sided since the start. After all, the Texans were founded in Peyton Manning’s 2nd year with the Colts. He went on to play with them for 11 more seasons. So it should surprise no one that the overall record between the two is a solid 32-9 in the Colts’ favor. At their last meeting, Week 13 of the 2021 season, the Colts won in Houston, 31-0. Both teams look a little different this year. Matt Ryan will be seeking to extend his consistent career, now…

This week, the Houston Texans cut their roster back to the NFL’s 53-man limit. The team waived several young players and released a few veterans. How did the changes reshape key positions for the team, and what more will they need to do to prepare for the regular season? Texans’ Roster: Offensive Cuts More players ended up being cut from the Texans’ roster on offense than defense. Veterans QB Jeff Driskel and RB Marlon Mack struggled during the offseason, unable to compete with others for the position. Altogether 5 receivers were cut or released. Last night’s preseason game against the 49ers was the Houston Texans’ best by far. Davis Mills had a terrific outing, despite a wonky interception that wasn’t really his fault. Marlon Mack finally broke out, and Dameon Pierce had some amazing runs too. And finally, the Texans were able to cut way back on penalties and sloppy mistakes. Houston Texans’ Offensive Performance Davis Mills On paper, Davis Mills didn’t really put up outstanding numbers. He went 6 for 10 for 58 yards and 1 TD and 1 INT. But some of his passes were broken up, taken away by penalties, and…

The Houston Texans won their 2nd preseason game of the year Friday night, against the Los Angeles Rams. Davis Mills finally had a good drive at the end of the 1st half, after 4 grueling punts and a Rex Burkhead fumble. And the defense managed to land 6 sacks, including 4 just in the 1st quarter. But in addition to the signs of success, these games have also brought hints of trouble for the Texans this upcoming season. Texans’ Successes Maybe the biggest win for the Texans yesterday was Davis Mills’ performance. Fans and critics had much more to work…

Recent criticism from the head of the NFLPA brought the spotlight back to conditions at Soldier Field. He and many others were quick to blame the NFL, since they’re supposed to be certifying every field before every game. However the real reason behind Soldier Field’s shoddy grass is more complicated. Blame the NFL Blaming the NFL is easy: they make the big money and should clearly be responsible for field conditions. But just how rigorous are their certifications? The Chicago Bears eked out a narrow win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the Preseason Week 1 game. Although preseason wins don’t count for much, it’s a great time for teams to test things out. What worked well for the Bears, and what didn’t? First Half The Chiefs dominated early in the game on both sides of the ball. Mahomes nailed a TD pass to TE Blake Bell to end his first and only drive. Later in the 2nd quarter, Shane Buechele tossed a long pass to Justin Watson for another TD. All throughout, the Bears were forced to…
