Auburn football will enter the 2024 season 14 years removed from their last title. The Auburn Tigers won it all in 2010, posting a remarkable 14-0 record behind superstar quarterback and Heisman winner Cam Newton. Auburn’s only other undefeated season came in 2004 under the guidance of head coach Tommy Tuberville. The current United States Senator of Alabama, Tuberville, coached the Tigers from 1999 to 2008 before short stints with Cincinnati and Texas Tech.
Tuberville’s connection to football remains strong as he continues to serve in the US Senate. Last weekend, Alabama Prep (Morgan Academy) quarterback Caden Tellier suffered a catastrophic brain injury in his team’s season opener against Southern Academy. Tellier tragically passed away the next day. This incident took place in the state that Tuberville represents and is close to the city where the Auburn football program is based. As a result, the senator offered his condolences and thoughts to the Morgan Academy community.

We are heartbroken by the loss of Caden Tellier. Caden was an amazing young man and will be dearly missed. Praying for his family, friends, and the entire Morgan Academy community.
Caden Tellier, a 16-year-old from Selma, Alabama, likely suffered a “ruptured blood vessel in his brain,” per reports, and becomes the most recent death among high school football players. Meanwhile, Semaj Wilkins, a football player from New Brockton, Alabama, passed away earlier this month from a heat-related incident.
Tuberville expressed his sadness with the situation this week, joining in mourning with the Morgan Academy community, where Caden Tellier led the team in passing and rushing yards the year before. Tuberville has long been connected to the state of Alabama. An Arkansas native, Tuberville spent ten seasons coaching Auburn football, one of Alabama’s largest and most prominent universities. In 2020, Tuberville bested Democratic nominee Doug Jones for the title of Senator of Alabama.
