“Atlanta Wasted A Lot Of Money On Kirk”: NFL Fans React To Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Kirk Cousins Not Being At OTAs

The Atlanta Falcons signed quarterback Kirk Cousins to a four-year $180 million contract before the 2024 NFL season in free agency. During the same offseason, Atlanta drafted Michael Penix Jr. in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Falcons benched Cousins in the final couple of weeks during the 2024 season for Penix. With the 2025 NFL season on the horizon, Penix will be the starting quarterback over Cousins. It will be interesting to see if the former Michigan State Spartans quarterback is going to be on the roster by the time the 2025 season rolls around. OTAs for the Falcons began on Tuesday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he reported about the Falcons quarterback on Tuesday,

“Falcons QB Kirk Cousins is not in attendance today for the team’s voluntary OTAs, HC Raheem Morris told reporters.”

This may not feel like a surprise because of Cousins being the backup quarterback and Penix being the starting quarterback. Will he ask to get traded or released before the season begins? It remains to be seen if he does or not.

During the 2024 season with Atlanta, Cousins completed 66.9% of his passes for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He is 36 years old. If he were to get released by the Falcons, what kind of market would he have?

Atlanta wasted a lot of money on Kirk.

Lets go’ my colts are ready for him! We are the NFL’s retirement home where quarterbacks come to end their career. We love the falcons sloppy seconds!

    — Taylor Caniff (@taylorcaniff) May 27, 2025

Let’s not act surprised, all that guaranteed money I probably wouldn’t show up either.

    — Sideline Bros (@sidelinebros) May 27, 2025

One way or another, I’d say his days in Atlanta are numbered — and that number isn’t very large.

Maybe he ends up in New Orleans?

    — SanchoPanzy (@SanchoPanzy) May 27, 2025

He wants to get traded to the Browns so he can start and I don’t blame him

    — Aidan LaPorta (@AidanLaPorta69) May 27, 2025

They will have OTAs on Tuesday and Wednesday. Atlanta will also have OTAs on June 2-3 and also June 5. There mandatory minicamp is on June 10-11. If Cousins does not show up to mandatory minicamp by then, then it is possible that he will either get traded or released by the team.
