The Atlanta Falcons made a lot of massive moves this offseason to try and end their playoff drought. With a bolstered offensive line, and signing long-time quarterback Kirk Cousins, the team is looking in great shape to win the NFC South division. However, with all the new additions, the Falcons had to let their veteran quarterback go via trade.
Atlanta Falcons Trade Quarterback To The Los Angeles Chargers
As sourced by Gridiron Heroics’ very own Jordan Sigler, the Falcons traded veteran quarterback Taylor Heinicke to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick. With Heinicke now gone and former starter Desmond Ridder traded to the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta now only has two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster.
According to Dianna Russini with The Athletic, the Falcons traded Heinicke to the Chargers in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick.
The Falcons only have quarterbacks Cousins and Penix on the roster. The Falcons did not sign a quarterback to the practice squad on Wednesday.

Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers Fans React
Many fans believe that the Chargers will benefit the most from the trade as Los Angeles has been in need of a more solid back up for Justin Herbert. Herbert has suffered multiple injuries that have affected his time on the field, and current back up Easton Stick has not been the answer for the team. Here are some of the reactions from fans about the trade:
Great move for them, Herbert has had some injury problems

Taylor Heinicke Career
Since joining the NFL in 2017 with the Houston Texans, Heinicke has amounted to 6,635 passing yards and 39 touchdowns. Following his time with Houston, the veteran played for the Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders before signing with Atlanta in 2023. He proved that he can be a decent backup and even a starter with the Commanders, where he wen for 3,419 passing yards and 20 touchdowns.
Even though henicke will serve as one of the back ups to Herbert in Los Angeles, he has shown that he has what it takes if his name is called upon. Do you think Heinicke will see any playing time with the Chargers, and which team do you think won the trade?
