After the Atlanta Falcons beat the Las Vegas Raiders last week, the Falcons decided to make a quarterback change from Kirk Cousins to rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. against the New York Giants. It was the perfect time for Atlanta to make the switch.
Entering Sunday’s matchup, the Falcons were 7-7 trying to chase the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for first place in the NFC South. With this benching, seeing what happens with Cousins after the 2024 NFL season could be interesting.
Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Kirk Cousins Could Potentially Retire After the 2024 NFL Season
Cousins will have three years remaining on his deal with the Falcons after the 2024 season. However, there is a chance that Kirk Cousins may not be with Atlanta next season.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network mentioned:
“#Falcons QB Kirk Cousins will take some time completely away from football in the offseason to decide what he wants to do for the future.”
JPA Football on Twitter also added:
“He could potentially retire, but he’d be leaving a lot of money on the table. He’s also earned nearly $300 million dollars already.”
Cousins is 36 years old. With moving on from the Minnesota Vikings last year, it would be interesting to see if he would go somewhere else or just retire from the NFL after the 2024 season. The odds are that if Atlanta does not bring him back next year, he could just retire despite having some potential suitors for him.

He’s guaranteed $28 million next year which would put him over $400 million for his career having one just one playoff game

There is no doubt that Cousins has made a ton of money throughout his NFL career despite not winning many playoff games. He was a very good quarterback in the NFL with a ton of offensive talent who just put up very good numbers during the regular season.
