With only one win in three games, the Atlanta Falcons are in danger of sliding down more as the 2024 NFL season progresses. This has also led quarterback Kirk Cousins to express his disappointment in their Week 3 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs.
In a tightly contested matchup, the Chiefs secured a 22-17 victory over the Falcons, maintaining their unbeaten record at 3-0. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown passes, overcoming an early interception to lead his team. The Chiefs’ defense played a crucial role, stopping the Falcons on two critical fourth downs in the final minutes.
The game opened with the Falcons quickly scoring on a 14-yard pass from Kirk Cousins to Drake London. However, Mahomes responded with a 13-play drive culminating in a touchdown to Rashee Rice. Atlanta regained the lead with a short touchdown run by Bijan Robinson, following a significant 50-yard completion to Kyle Pitts.
As the game progressed, Kansas City’s defense began to assert itself, forcing Cousins into tough situations. Despite being sacked multiple times and under constant pressure, Cousins managed to throw for 230 yards and a touchdown. The Chiefs’ special teams contributed as well, with Harrison Butker kicking three field goals to help secure the win.
In the closing moments, the Falcons had a chance to take the lead but faltered at crucial moments, including a failed fourth-down attempt where Nick Bolton tackled Robinson for a loss. Mahomes completed 217 yards, including a touchdown to JuJu Smith-Schuster, while backup running backs stepped up in place of the injured Isiah Pacheco.
Kirk Cousins Expresses His Disappointment Over Atlanta Falcons’ Week 3 Loss Against Kansas City Chiefs
After the game, Cousins admitted how disappointed he was with Atlanta losing to the Chiefs. This can be seen in an article written D. Orlando Ledbetter for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“Disappointing night,” Cousins said. “You feel like you snatched defeat from the jaws of victory is kind of how it felt a little bit, if I’m saying that right.”
After a narrow loss to the Chiefs, the Falcons face significant concerns regarding their offensive line. Injuries to right tackle Kaleb McGary and center Drew Dalman caused Cousins to struggle in their absence, fumbling twice after the latter’s exit.
As a result, the Falcons dropped to a 1-2 record, which can get worse if they don’t get their act together. If they don’t expect Cousins to express his disappointment in the coming days.
