Atlanta Falcons Named as Potential Suitor for 1-Time Pro Bowler Amid LB Woes

The start of this season has been good for the Atlanta Falcons, especially since they’re on top of NFC South with a 3-2 record. Things can get better, though, if the front office will make a move to get Deion Sanders before the trade deadline expires.

The Falcons are transforming their narrative under general manager Terry Fontenot, who faced significant criticism after selecting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Many questioned this decision, especially after the team signed veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract, believing they were all-in for the current season.

However, the Falcons have started strong, sitting at 3-2 and leading the NFC South, raising hopes of breaking their six-year playoff drought. Fontenot’s offseason moves are beginning to pay off, notably highlighted in their thrilling 36-30 overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cousins had a standout game, throwing for 509 yards and four touchdowns, validating Fontenot’s decision to bring him to Atlanta.

Key contributions came from young talents like receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts. London caught 12 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown, while Pitts had seven receptions for 88 yards, marking his best performance since his rookie season. This emerging chemistry among the players is a promising sign for the future.

Atlanta Falcons Projected to Pursue Deion Jones Ahead of the NFL Trade Deadline

As it stands, the Falcons are in need of an experienced veteran to reinforce their linebacker corps. According to the latest NFL analysis by Bleacher Report, a good option to explore is acquiring Deion Jones.

Add Now: LB Deion Jones

The Falcons are getting thin at linebacker with Nate Landman on injured reserve and Troy Andersen having to miss this past week’s game with a knee injury. So, the organization might want to consider bringing back Jones in case of an emergency.

The 29-year-old who turns 30 next month isn’t the player he used to be, but he can at least be a decent coverage backer if the team needs someone to fill in.

The Falcons are being urged to sign Jones to strengthen their defense for the rest of the season.. The former Pro Bowl linebacker, who last played for the Carolina Panthers, has a solid track record, including multiple seasons with over 100 tackles during his time with the Falcons.

While he may not be the same player he once was, adding Jones could provide Atlanta with much-needed defensive support and leadership, making him a valuable asset moving forward.
