The Las Vegas Raiders are deep into training camp, and one of the biggest developments has been how smoothly Ashton Jeanty has adjusted to the roster and the team’s offensive system. Taken with the sixth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Jeanty enters with plenty of pressure—but early signs suggest he could be outperforming even the high expectations that came with his selection.

Sports Illustrated NFL reporter Albert Breer visited Raiders training camp and came away most impressed by Ashton Jeanty’s performance. Breer noted that Jeanty stood out immediately and highlighted how much more he’s been involved in pass protection compared to his college days. According to Breer, Jeanty has embraced the responsibility, which appears to be a clear point of emphasis for head coach Pete Carroll.
Ashton Jeanty with the Raiders

“Ashton Jeanty has come as advertised. All the obvious stuff to all the coaches and scouts who evaluated him is the contact balance and the ability to hide behind his linemen as a shorter, more compact player. And get past defenders before they could even see him. He can take a 10-yard run and turn it into a 50-yard run. All that stuff is there,” Breer remarked in a Sports Illustrated YouTube video.
Jeanty capped off a dominant three-year run at Boise State with a historic junior season, rushing for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns on 374 carries while leading the Broncos to a 12-2 record, a Mountain West title, and their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.

He finished second in Heisman voting behind Travis Hunter and closed his college career with 4,769 rushing yards and 56 total touchdowns, though Boise State’s playoff run ended with a loss to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl.
Breer also noted that he views Ashton Jeanty as a major playmaker beyond just the passing game, a trait that could prove vital to his success in the NFL.
Jeanty saw limited action on special teams at Boise State, but the Raiders may look to use him as a kick returner this season. With Pete Carroll taking over as head coach, Jeanty is expected to have a significant role early on, though managing his workload will be crucial to keeping him healthy.
