Now that the dust has settled from the Fiesta Bowl defeat, Ashton Jeanty is looking forward to the NFL draft. He’s publicly shared his desire to play for the Dallas Cowboys, saying, “I’d love to play for the Cowboys, that would be a dream come true.” Is the interest mutual? Dallas certainly needs the help at running back. But could another team swoop in before Dallas is even on the clock at 12? The last draft tracker showed Jeanty was almost a unanimous pick for the Dallas Cowboys, but let’s see what the analysts have to say this time.
Ashton Jeanty NFL Mock Drafts Picks
CBS– Prospect ranking: 13
Team: Houston Texans
Position: 19
Analyst: Ryan Wilson
Analysis: “Is Ashton Jeanty a luxury pick? That depends; were Bijan Robinson or Jahmyr Gibbs luxury picks? Because Jeanty is that type of impact back. He hasn’t been used nearly as much in the pass game, but that doesn’t mean he can’t do it.”
Team: Dallas Cowboys
Position: 12
Analyst: Chris Trapasso
Analysis: “If Jeanty is available when Jerry Jones goes on the clock, I firmly believe he will be the pick for the Cowboys.”
Team: Cincinnati Bengals
Position: 17
Analyst: Josh Edwards
Analysis: “Tee Higgins could move on this offseason despite a public campaign from Joe Burrow. If that were to happen, then there are other ways to supplement the pass game. Clyde Edwards-Helaire went on to be a first-round pick after working with Burrow. His contributions in the pass game were a big reason for that heavy investment.”
Team: Chicago Bears
Position: 10
Analyst: Mike Renner
Analysis: “With tons of cap space, expect the Bears to address the offensive line elephant in the room in free agency. Once that box is ticked, Ashton Jeanty would be the perfect complement to Caleb Williams’ athleticism in the backfield. He’s a three-down back with elite tackle-breaking ability.”

Yahoo! Sports– Prospect Ranking: N/A
Team: Dallas Cowboys
Position: 12
Analyst: Nate Tice and Charles McDonald
Analysis: “Something flashy for Dallas. Jeanty might not be the biggest need for the Cowboys, but he’s certainly the best player on the board at this point. Jeanty was one of the best players in college football this season and should immediately be one of the better running backs in the league from Day 1. Running backs still have value early, particularly if they’re as good as Jeanty.”
Pro Football Network– Prospect Ranking: N/A
Team: Dallas Cowboys
Position: 12
Analyst: Jacob Infante
Analysis: “No matter if the Cowboys keep Mike McCarthy as their head coach, it’s clear their run game wasn’t nearly what it needed to be this season. With a top-15 pick and one of the best running back prospects in recent memory entering this class, the marriage here almost seems too good to be true.
Jeanty dominated in a 2024 season that saw him finish second in voting for the Heisman Trophy. He’s an intelligent runner who can read the whole field, he has very good lateral quickness, he offers value as a receiver and blocker on passing downs, and his contact balance is elite. There aren’t many running backs who go in the first half of the NFL Draft anymore, but Jeanty is definitely worth the exception.“
Bleacher Nation– Prospect Ranking: N/A
Team: Dallas Cowboys
Position: 12
Analyst: Matt Rooney
Analysis: “Dallas has more significant needs than a running back, but as we’ve seen this year, the right one can make a huge difference. Jeanty is an excellent running back, and he’s probably the best player available at this point. It seems like most mock drafts are making this connection, but that’s for a good reason. Dallas has a ton of holes in their roster that need filling. Having said that, the Cowboys’ ground attack has been brutal this year, and Jeanty can help.“
Average Position: 13
Most picked team: Dallas Cowboys
Surprising Change in Projections
While the most picked team is still the Dallas Cowboys, many analysts have changed their tune, with some projecting Ashton Jeanty is gone by 12 and others that Dallas goes a different route with the pick. This year has shown that running backs can make a big difference for a team, but the Cowboys should really consider shoring up their offensive line before using a high pick on a running back.
