The Minnesota Vikings have a very good coaching staff on their hands. Kevin O’Connell won the coach of the year during the 2024 NFL season.

Two key assistants on his staff are defensive coordinator Brian Flores and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown. There is a chance that both coaches on O’Connell’s staff will get head coaching interviews with other NFL teams after the 2025 NFL season. There is a chance that O’Connell could also lose those coaches on his staff as well.
One NFL Analyst Thinks That Minnesota Vikings Quarterbacks Coach Josh McCown Could Get Hired Next Head Coaching Cycle

Many different espn.com writers answered some pivotal questions about the NFC North division entering the 2025 NFL season. One of those questions were which key assistant is most likely to be in the 2026 head coaching cycle? Kevin Seifert of espn.com thinks that the Vikings quarterback coach could be in the mix during the next head coaching cycle.
Seifert said about McCown getting interviews next cycle,
“As wild as it sounds, the 2024 season was McCown’s first full season as an NFL assistant coach. He opted against interviewing for offensive coordinator positions, but still got an interview for the New York Jets‘ head coaching job.
McCown has long been on the league’s radar, having interviewed for the Houston Texans‘ top job in 2022, and if McCarthy performs well in 2025, McCown might be able to skip the coordinator level altogether.”
McCown was also a quarterback in the NFL as well. The Vikings success in 2025 hinges on J.J. McCarthy. If Minnesota’s offense is successful in 2025 once again, then McCown is going to get a lot of looks across the league. He helped Sam Darnold be successful during the 2024 NFL season.
