Oklahoma football has had a roller coaster ride under third-year head coach Brent Venables. Following a horrific inaugural season, in which the Oklahoma Sooners went 6-7, the then Big 12 team went 10-3, earning a berth in the Alamo Bowl. However, this year, their first in the SEC, Oklahoma took a significant step backward, going 6-6, firing offensive coordinator Seth Littrell, playing two quarterbacks, and winning just two games in the conference. In the fallout of a poor regular season, the Sooners have lost many offensive playmakers, headlined by former five-star quarterback and second-year player Jackson Arnold.
Last weekend, Arnold decided on his next school, landing within the conference and signing with the Auburn Tigers. Arnold, the fourth-ranked quarterback in the 2023 class, will get a crack against his old team as early as next season. Nevertheless, some of the Oklahoma football faithful are not pleased with Arnold going to a team that will compete with the program annually for the foreseeable future.
Oklahoma Football Fans Disappointed With Jackson Arnold Landing Spot
According to On3 through Twitter:
BREAKING: Oklahoma transfer QB Jackson Arnold has signed with Auburn, per @PeteNakos_.
On Saturday, the Auburn Tigers landed the services of former Oklahoma football starting quarterback Jackson Arnold. A five-star prospect in the 2023 class, Arnold served as Dillon Gabriel’s backup in his first year. With Gabriel darting for the Oregon Ducks via the transfer portal, Arnold became the starter to begin the 2024 campaign. However, poor play in their SEC opener against the Tennessee Volunteers led to head coach Brent Venables replacing Arnold with Michael Hawkins. Insufficient play from Hawkins led to a return by Arnold. With a depleted receiving core for much of the season, Arnold finished the year throwing for 1,421 yards, 12 touchdowns, and three picks. He also ran for 444 yards and four scores.
Arnold decided to transfer within the SEC, heading to Auburn as they went 5-7 this season. He will replace fellow passer Payton Thorne in 2025. Oklahoma football will host Arnold and the Auburn Tigers in November next year. Oklahoma won this year’s matchup, 27-21. The departure of Arnold to an SEC rival has left a poor taste in the mouth of a select number of OU fans:

I wish Jackson Arnold the absolute best and will root for the guy.
But there’s some serious revisionist history going around twitter today about what he’s been as a player
He’s been in college for two years. The stats are out there.

Auburn hired Hugh Freeze because he beat Alabama.
They are paying Jackson Arnold $1 million+ because he beat Alabama.
Tale as old as time. https://t.co/SyTDltFZWe
