The annual preseason coaches poll for the 2022 college football season was released on Monday. Arkansas debuted at No. 23 in the poll. It’s the first time in a long time the Razorbacks have been preseason-ranked in the coaches poll.
While many Hog fans are just happy to get back to relevancy, does the ranking make sense?
Did the Coaches Poll underrate the Razorbacks?
Many of the teams ahead of Arkansas bring back key pieces from last year. However, there are some other teams that didn’t perform as well or don’t bring back a lot of pieces, yet are still ranked higher. These include Texas, who had a dismal 5-7 season last year. Another notable team ranked above Arkansas is Cincinnati. The Bearcats made the college football playoff last year, but lose a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. This includes QB Desmond Ridder and CBs Ahmad Gardener and Coby Bryant.
The good news is that the Hogs will have a chance to prove they’re better than the Bearcats. Arkansas and Cincinnati face-off on September 3 in Fayetteville, Ark.
While preseason coaches polls don’t have much bearing on the season, it’s still interesting to see how other coaches perceive Arkansas’ program.
