The Arizona Cardinals are in for an interesting 2023. They seem to be content with losing a lot of games in 2023 to prepare for the generational talents that sit at the top of the 2024 draft. One question that many have had is who will be the starting quarterback for the team in week 1. Kyler Murray is recovering from an ACL injury and Colt McCoy has an elbow injury. This means that rookie quarterback Clayton Tune could get an opportunity to start in week 1.
Arizona Cardinals Could Start Clayton Tune
Tune was a fifth-round pick out of Houston. His last two seasons in college were very productive where he threw for 7,618 yards and 70 TDs. NFL analyst Chris Simms recently said that Tune is, “a better athlete than Brock Purdy.” David Blough and Jeff Driskel are on the roster but it seems likely that Tune could beat them both out during training camp. The team saw something when they took him so it seems likely they would keep him on the roster, especially with the third quarterback rule.
Honestly, Why Not?
The Cardinals should absolutely do this. What do they have to lose? They are trying to be bad so if Tune comes in and struggles, it doesn’t matter. If he comes and does well, it may cause them to rethink their plans for the coming years. Tune would have to be the second coming of Patrick Mahomes for the team to not take a quarterback next year but how will you know if you don’t start him? Even if he is somewhat good, that could make him trade bait to gain even more draft capital.
The Arizona Cardinals should absolutely give Clayton Tune a chance in 2023. At the very least, it would give their fans something to watch as this team might not do much this season.
